Job Description
As part of the electromagnetic Fields (EMF) team you will be instrumental in conducting EMF safety assessments for many systems across a number of different QinetiQ sites and compiling the appropriate reports. You will be part of a team of experts who provide the advice, support and guidance to project teams and the facilities to ensure that business meets its legislative requirements for EMF workers.
Specific Responsibilities
* Calculation of relevant Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Personnel (HERP), Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Fuels (HERF), Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) and Safety Critical Electronic System (SCES) safety distances.
* Completion of modelling and calculations on EMF safe distances using accepted methodologies and tools i.e. Wilkinson, Shinn, EZNEC etc.
* Production of EMF safety cases detailing the results of all calculations / modelling and recommendations on any actions / mitigations to ensure safe operation.
* Generation of safety case reports as required for equipment coming onto sites or due to changes or amendments in current installations.
* Ensuring the content and quality of reports is a key part of this role.
Knowledge, skills and Personal Qualities Required
* A degree in a Physics or related engineering discipline.
* Proven understanding of fundamental electromagnetic (EM) theory.
* Experience in modelling EM propagation and analysing the resulting data
* Strong analytical and numerical skills.
* Experience in completing EMF safety surveys.
* An excellent grasp of the English language including a proven ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
* Sound and comprehensive communications skills in order to exchange complex information both within the team and to the wider community.
Knowledge and skills desired
* Experience in using RF Modelling tools.
* Experience in assessing Royal Navy (or other) communication and sensor systems from an EMF perspective.
* Experience in using MATLAB.
