About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit an Assistant Commercial Manager to join our
Defence Support business unit, who provide Equipment Management for the British Army.

You'll be part of a large sector that provide fleet management of over 50,000 vehicles, ranging from quad bikes and generators to main battle tanks, and weapons from pistols to cannons. We conduct complex engineering projects to rebuild armoured vehicles to ensure that they remain ready for action. We are trusted to deliver the right equipment to allow the Army to train for and deploy to operations.

Using your experience of Commercial, Contract and Change management, you will sit within the Change and Project Team and assist the Commercial Manager with any commercial issues ensuring that the commercial and financial interests of the company are optimised.

You will do this by managing commercial discussions and negotiations, supporting the Supply Chain function in strategic procurement activities, providing guidance to the business regarding terms and conditions, risk and pricing and ensuring that policies and procedures are followed consistently across the business.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need to have commercial experience and preferably within a defence/engineering environment.

Have proven experience of manipulating terms and conditions, pricing, trade controls, agency agreements, contract variations and negotiation.
Lastly, you'll need to be able to deploy good communication and influencing skills as you'll work closely with the client and our internal and external stakeholders.

What else do I need to know?

  • Your main base will be in Andover but you will be required to travel to other sites at Warminster and Bovington.
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Permanent position, 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
  • The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
  • This role could be considered for flexible working.
