About the role
Babcock Devonport has a number of opportunities for individuals to join the lifting and slinging teams on the Devonport site as part of a recently reinvigorated Nationally Recognised Training program.

The roles are full time trainee positions and will see the development of personnel from a position of no lifting experience through to an NVQ Level 2 Slinger Signaller in the marine environment. In addition there is potential for high performing individuals to enhance their qualifications and skills once they complete training.
Babcock is planning for the future and with a growing order book the requirement to develop and retain key skills has been recognised.
Lifting within the dockyard is an essential service and developing the skills unique to the Naval Base takes extensive training and time served alongside the skilled workforce. This work based learning allows experienced personnel to mentor and develop trainee's skills and learning.

You will undertake training prior to deployment within the Naval Base and will then be partnered with a mentor within the lifting community to develop them in line with the pre-defined NVQ competency requirements.

What do I need to do the role?
You must have achieved a basic level of English and Mathematics qualification at GCSE grade 5 (D) or equivalent
  • No previous experience of lifting operations is required although an understanding of lifting and the Naval Base is desired.
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate basic IT skills and be able to communicate at all levels.
  • Be able to follow instruction and act in accordance with Babcock procedures and processes.
  • You will be expected to monitor progress against the competences and demonstrate progress at monthly review sessions with the NVQ assessor. On achievement of the competencies a final assessment will take place. The training programme will take 3 years.
