The Business
Babcock's Rosyth dockyard is infamous in Fife and is home to the Goliath crane which can be seen from miles around. This is a really exciting opportunity become an apprentice CNC Machinist and have the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most complex Engineering projects on the planet.

The Role
For the first year, you will study full time at college, working towards your SVQ2 and NC. After this, for the following 3 years, you will work Monday-Thursday at Babcock's Rosyth Dockyard and learn what it's like to be part of a time in a real life working environment.
As an apprentice production Machinist you will be trained to manufacture components and assembly piece parts from a variety of raw and formed materials, such as low, medium and high carbon steels, as well as Inconel, Monel, Stainless Steel, Duplex and other exotic metals, plastics, aluminium and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
 
A machinist will be expected to work with some/all of the above materials in a wide range of thicknesses from 1mm to 200mm and above, in their various formats from flat/formed plate, round, tubular, cast and forged condition.

During your training you will learn how to interpret engineering drawings and how to manufacture products in the most productive and efficient manner by using manual and CNC turning/milling and other machining / inspection techniques. Your skill will be endorsed by a committed and positive attitude to good quality.
 
The Person - Qualifications & Requirements
First and foremost, we want you to be excited and passionate about starting an apprenticeship within Babcock and eager to learn skills within your chosen trade.
We are looking for exceptional apprentices with a positive, can do attitude. On top of this, we would also expect you to have a minimum of 5 National 5s Grade C or above (5 Standard Grades Grade 3 or above) including Maths, English and at least one other scientific or technical subject.
In return, you will be put through your Modern Apprenticeship in your chosen trade and our commitment is to encourage all apprentices to achieve an HNC.  
Please note, to be successful in this position, you must be able to satisfy the Ministry of Defence security requirements and you will also be required to undertake a medical assessment.
Due to the nature of the work that will be undertaken by Babcock, applicants for this position will be required to be UK nationals / citizens.
