The Business
Babcock's Rosyth dockyard is infamous in Fife and is home to the Goliath crane which can be seen from miles around. This is a really exciting opportunity become an apprentice Design Technician and have the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most complex Engineering projects on the planet.
We are committed to building and inspiring the next generation of best in class tradespeople and our apprentices have the opportunity to do great things with their futures, as well as getting involved in STEM initiatives, and the various forums we have such as the Apprentice Health and Safety Forum and Babcock Women's Network during your time on the apprenticeship.
The Role
For the first year, you will study full time at college, working towards your SVQ2 and NC. After this, for the following 3 years, you will work Monday-Thursday at Babcock's Rosyth Dockyard and learn what it's like to be part of a time in a real life working environment.
As a Design Technician, you are likely to focus on one of 3 areas of the engineering design team; electrical, mechanical or structural. Your role will then be to assist the experienced deisgn team members in providing engineering designs including; 3D modelling and 2D drawings that are required throughout the design lifecycle. This will include; conceptual and detailed design drawings, modelling, simple calculations and technical solutions in the delivery of tasks and projects.
The Person - Qualifications & Requirements
First and foremost, we want you to be excited and passionate about starting an apprenticeship within Babcock and eager to learn skills within your chosen trade.
We are looking for exceptional apprentices with a positive, can do attitude. On top of this, we would also expect you to have a minimum of 5 National 5s Grade C or above (5 Standard Grades Grade 3 or above) including Maths, English and at least two other scientific or technical subject.
You will also require a Higher in Maths and one other relevant technical subject at level C or above.
In return, you will be put through your Modern Apprenticeship in your chosen trade and our commitment is to encourage all apprentices to achieve an HNC.
Please note, to be successful in this position, you must be able to satisfy the Ministry of Defence security requirements and you will also be required to undertake a medical assessment.
Due to the nature of the work that will be undertaken by Babcock, applicants for this position will be required to be UK nationals / citizens.
