About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Mechanical Fitter/Turner to join the team at Coulport. You will be responsible for performing planned and preventative maintenance, defect identification and repair activities to Surface Support Equipment (SSE), facility support equipment and workshop machinery. As well as carrying out alterations and modifications to SSE and facility support equipment as required.

You will be responsible for understanding plans, drawings or sketches, working out material requirements then building to plan and manufacturing facility production aids, jigs, fixtures and bespoke items as required using workshop machinery such as lathes, grinding, engraving and milling machines and pedestal drills.

Other responsibilities include determining improvements for building and facility equipment, implementing these improvements, supplying sketches to be transferred to drawings for further approval and manufacturing new production aids.

What do I need to do the role?

You will hold an Engineering Turner/Fitter Apprenticeship or HND Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

You will be an Experienced Turner/Fitter with the ability to work independently and within time constraints.

You will have an aptitude in interpretation of engineering drawings and knowledge of Strategic Weapon Systems and Surface Support Equipment.

You will also have an understanding of the Quality Control system, both assurance and inspection plus experience within COSHH & safe systems of work.

What else do I need to know?

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.

The working hours for this role are 08:00 - 16:45 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 - 12:00 Fridays.

This position is part of a bigger team and the turning part does not acquaint to full time so you must be happy and flexible to support on more mechanical fitting type duties as and when required.
