Role Profile - Cyber Analyst

Background

The role of Cyber Analyst (CA) is to provide general support to the modelling and identification of cyber vulnerabilities. The CA will normally be part of a core team conducting a Cyber Vulnerability Investigation (CVI) of a defined Target of Interest (ToI). The CA performs the bulk of the OSINT activity and presents the data to the core team. The CA will be directed and supervised by members of the core CVI team as required.

*Grade Range 9 -12
*SC (minimum) or DV Cleared

A CA should be appointed for all CVI projects. The capability and level of effort required from the CA will depend on the size and nature of the CVI project, but all CA should have, as a minimum, the skills and qualifications detailed below.

Skills

Security
Can perform a Cyber security project assessment and conduct analysis at technical, people and process levels, stripped across the main CVI phases:
*Aware of Information Security Management Principles
*Understands MOD CVI Methodology
*Can implement Atkins CVI Process with direction and guidance
*Aware of Cyber Security

OSINT
Can conduct research to obtain open source information related to the ToI, existing vulnerabilities, system build and related information:
*Understands OSINT Background & General Principles
*Can identify and use OSINT Information Sources
*Understands OSINT Legal, Security & Privacy obligations
*Aware of Atkins CVI Information Technology Infrastructure (e.g VMs, Secure Hardware & Software)
*Proficient in using Atkins OSINT tools and techniques (e.g. Hunch.ly, Casewise etc.)
*Proficient in OSINT data capture and reporting

Modelling
Can support, interpret and analyse the modelling of the ToI, mission scenarios and other SOSA factors related to the ToI:
*Basic understanding of Systems Modelling (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Casewise)
*Can develop MODAF Views
*Can develop and interpret Scenario Modelling
*Can develop and interpret Threat and Vulnerability Modelling
*Can develop and interpret Mission Impact Modelling

General
Understands Cyber fundamentals - Threats and consequences
Understands UK Cyber security organisation and strategy
Aware of UK MoD Customer, Defence Organisation and Capability
Has consultancy skills (e.g. Facilitation, Workshops, Interview technique, Customer facing skills, etc.)

Qualifications
Essential:
*As a minimum, a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant technical subject
*CISMP certified
