Role Summary/Purpose:
    The Hardware Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of engineers developing power product solutions for aircraft power control & distribution systems. As a GE Engineering Manager you will utilize your proven leadership and technical skills to achieve business and project goals. You will identify and execute technology and staffing growth to ensure that the Hardware Systems activities within the Power Distribution Center of Excellence group and products are best in class.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and technical direction for your assigned team, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counselling.
  • Build the capabilities of the hardware systems team, strengthening our abilities for creating planning documents, requirements management, verification & qualification activities.
  • Maintain a broad awareness of all projects within your group to ensure technical quality, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer and program needs.
  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information within your group and develop a strong working relationship with the systems engineering team.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for assigned personnel & Lead performance development conversations.
  • Work with the New Business group to plan and cost proposals for new projects.
  • Drive a cost reduction and simplification focus into your team.
  • Exemplify, champion and promote GE culture and best practice-Ensure company compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented within work group.
  • Formulate, monitor and maintain departmental Key Performance Indicators with a view to continuous improvement.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in Electronics engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience in hardware systems related activities together with good project leadership skills
  • Ability to build effective cross-functional or multi-discipline team relationships with excellent team leadership and strong inter-personal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of product design and development activities or new product introduction role within an engineering environment including exposure to verification and test-methodologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and solving problems with an ability to apply a "Systems thinking" approach together with a working knowledge of hardware architecture

Desired Characteristics:
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and safety requirements for safety critical products (ideally gained in an avionics or similar environment).
  • Formal Management training with effective team building skills.
  • A good understanding of project management techniques for new product introduction role within an engineering environment
  • Experience of Design for manufacture, Lean Six Sigma or Green Belt activities
  • Ability to manage remote and/or virtual teams.
  • Experience of supplier/sub-contract management.
