Role Summary/Purpose:
    This is a critical senior role within the Avionics Engineering development group with responsibility for delivering engineering programmes on time, within agreed budget and to the required level of functionality and quality. You will lead complex, safety-critical development projects, often involving global delivery teams and high-profile international customers. As a role model for Engineering Project Management, you will also assist with developing our EPM capability and improving processes
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and direction for complex avionics projects and engineering development teams
  • Lead and direct global engineering development teams
  • Plan and control development projects, managing cost, schedule, scope, resources, opportunities and risks to ensure project success
  • Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals and processes
  • Develop and implement suitable metrics, to enable the continuous monitoring and forecasting of project progress and report earned value
  • Lead programmatic meetings and reviews for assigned projects
  • Promote technical excellence across the engineering group through design/technical review participation, lessons learned awareness and application and technical innovation and growth
  • Establish and maintain relationships with required internal and external customers to ensure that requirements are understood and achieved
  • Establish, modify and monitor overall project requirements, timing, and resources to meet or exceed business objectives and goals
  • Effectively communicate technical and financial aspects of your activities vertically and horizontally in a matrix organisation
  • Ensure positive actions are taken to encourage growth, technical development and improved interpersonal skills
  • Implement initiatives to continuously improve the responsiveness to customer and business needs
  • Manage Integrated Suppliers and Subcontractors
  • Drive a culture of compliance and ensure compliance initiatives and training is implemented
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • University degree in Aerospace or STEM subject, or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge
  • Demonstrable experience in project management or leadership role within an engineering environment
  • Proven track record of delivering large, complex, multi-stakeholder projects or programmes
  • Successful experience in new product development, preferably in a safety-critical sector
  • Accomplished planning and organisational skills with experience of Enterprise Project Management tools and ERP systems
  • Solid oral and written communication skills, including proven ability to engage effectively at all levels within large organisations and other external stakeholders
  • Demonstrable interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage collocated and deployed teams
  • Strong decision making skills in a leadership role
  • Acute awareness of financial planning, budgeting and accounting practices

Desired Characteristics:
  • Practitioner of Systems Engineering in complex aerospace or defence projects
  • Certification as a Project or Programme Manager, preferably through PMI or APM
  • Masters degree in Aerospace or Engineering subject
  • Track record of using EVM techniques
  • Track record of using Agile methodologies, preferably in a safety-critical sector
