Mechanical Test Engineer

Devonport, Plymouth

Starting Salary £32,245

Purpose of the role
To be part of a small team of Engineers within the Commissioning Group (Warships), carrying out Inspections and Commissioning on HM Warships. Including liaising with both Royal Navy and Project staff on a daily basis.
Work will involve inspection and commissioning of GTs. DGs, Auxiliary Equipment, Tank calibration and testing Fire Fighting Systems, work may be on any RN Warship including Landing Craft
Completion of Test Documentation and Certification is another key role within this job.

Required knowledge, skills, experience and competences
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Ship Systems
  • Experience of commissioning process advantageous
  • Knowledge of Diesel Generators + auxiliary, equipment
  • Flexibility and good team player essential.
  • Knowledge of Type 23 advantageous
  • Computer Skills, particularly Microsoft Word

Working on board vessel, overtime (including some weekend work) short notice overtime, working at height, working offsite in the UK or abroad.

Security
Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.

Grade
This position is within the Submarine business unit as a band 4 which has a salary of £32,245 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.

This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in the vibrant city of Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England. Plymouth is a city with a long and proud military history and more than its fair share of heritage. Business Area- Devonport
Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people.
