To work with other data science team members and partners to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services and build data science and analytic capabilities in a Law Enforcement environment.

EMSOU colleagues, Senior Police Officers, other members of East Midland’s forces, external law enforcement agencies, CPS, partnership agencies, suppliers, industry and academia.

Person Specification Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience of a range of tools, techniques and programming languages (such as Python, Perl or Ruby) used to perform data extraction, transformation, fusion, searching, modelling, prediction and exploitation.

Experience of implementing complex entity and relationship extraction and matching methodologies within a ‘customer’ focused approach to solving real-world problems using data analytics.

Experience of the practical implementation of data security, access control and data protection principles and legislation.

Personal / Interpersonal Skills, Aptitudes:

The ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) regarding data science, statistical and analytics concepts to technical and non-technical staff.

The ability to be able to deal professionally with content of an unpleasant and/or disturbing nature and work to strict procedures and protocols in a confidential environment.

The ability to apply knowledge and experience to work independently and solve technical problems to deliver effective analytics products as well as adapting to and assimilating new technologies within your approach to data science.

Core Responsibilities/ Accountabilities

Operational:

Implement data analytics methodologies and techniques, translating data into valuable insights that inform tactical and strategic decision making within regional serious and organised crime policing.

Develop processes to combine disparate data feeds including to visualise, transform, model and exploit multiple open and closed data sources.

Recognise and exploit business opportunities to ensure more efficient and effective performance of EMSOU.

Management/Leadership:

Manage relationships with internal and external partners including Law Enforcement, Academia, Industry and partners.

Communication:

Work as part of a wider technical team to develop approaches to multi-source data exploitation within polcing.

Regularly liaise with non-technical customers to understand their requirements, providing advice and guidance, helping to embed smarter data analytic techniques within all EMSOU investigations.

Produce comprehensive reports and deliver presentations relating to data science and its business contribution to all levels of EMSOU Staff and Management as well as regional forces and partner organisations.

Administration:

Maintain records in accordance with national, local, and departmental policy and procedure.

Maintain detailed project development, planning and implementation documentation as well as appropriate software development records.

General:

Undertake other duties, in line with the responsibility of this role, that may be required to achive the aims of EMSOU.

Be flexible in terms of working location and be prepared to work temporarily at other locations within the regon area, undertaking a similar role.
