Engine Repair Technician

We are looking for an Engine Repair Technician to support helicopter modification projects for our aerospace engineering client in Gosport. Working as part of a multidiscipline team, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs to gas turbine engine components using techniques common to sheet metal work and fabrication including welding, brazing, vacuum heat treatments, blending, and detail part replacement.

As Engine Repair Technician your main responsibilities will include:

Repair of components using blending techniques - hand and air driven tooling
Repair of components using sheet metal fabrication techniques including planishing, forming, and general hot & cold working
Repair of components using TIG and MIG welding, including preparation of cracks and post weld dressing.
Use of Vacuum Furnace to carry out heat treatments and vacuum braze repairs
Replacement of faulty detail parts including studs, pins, inserts, bearing cages, threaded inserts.
Assist in control of consumable materials and development of repair capabilities.
Ensure all equipment is safe and satisfactory to use, rectifying any unsafe conditions within the jobholder's capability.
Ensuring all health and safety requirements are met and adhered to.
Following all shop floor rules of conduct
Involvement in business improvement initiatives

Qualifications and Requirements

Completion of indentured apprenticeship as a machinist or tool maker.
Able to read, write and carry out calculations accurately.
Knowledge of Geometry and Trigonometry advantageous.
Relevant and proven welding, sheet metal work, vacuum furnace use, and bench fitting experience, preferably (but not essentially) from and Aerospace environment.
Ability to read and use precision measuring equipment
Ability to read technical engineering drawings, both modern and older standards.
Familiarity with metric and imperial measurement.
Good written and oral communication skills.
