Category Manager

We currently have an opportunity for a Category Manager to join our Supply Chain function, within Babcock's Defence Systems Technology (DST) business, based at Filton, Bristol.

DST provides design, manufacture and support services to large, demanding clients, whose expectations and standards are exceptionally high. We have facilities at several sites in the UK, including Bristol, Leicester and Plymouth, as well as a number of overseas locations, including Canada, South Korea and Australia. The business continues to win new work and to grow at a significant pace; as a result we are recruiting for talented, enthusiastic and driven people to work in our Procurement and Supply Chain team.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain for DST's Equipment Management Business, we are recruiting for a Category Manager to join our Supply Chain team based in Bristol. You will play a significant role in managing the material and services requirements of projects by generating best value solutions, to increase the overall value and performance derived from the Supply Chain.

  • Design and implement appropriate supply chain solutions to support delivery of a number of projects.
  • Plan, prepare and implement strategic sourcing projects, analyse market responses and recommend solutions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead contract negotiations with key suppliers and manage supplier relationships to deliver the Quality, Cost and Delivery performance requirements of major projects.
  • Lead a team of procurement professionals to deliver the above activities as part of an integrated project team.
  • Support functional integration and alignment across the DST business through Category.

Required Skills and Experience / Qualifications

  • A recognised degree level qualification and/or relevant engineering/supply chain/lean culture experience.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIPS, with professional qualification at level 5 or above (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a procurement environment.
  • Must have a flexible approach to workload, confident reading and understanding technical drawings and ability to communicate complex requirements to/from supply chain.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Must have a good understanding of complex manufacturing processes and principles.
  • A good understanding of the Company business and objectives.
  • Experience of valves engineering would be beneficial.
  • Good knowledge of defence/marine sectors.
  • Must be self-motivated with a flexible approach to workload.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Hands on experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power point and IFS (desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Location

Bristol is a vibrant city in South West England with a wide range of attractions, landmarks, events and shopping. It has excellent transport links and is only 1.5 hours from London by train.

Security

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
