About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Babcock Marine Clyde.

You will undertake mechanical fitting activities, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all RN and other entitled Vessels and, when required, in other sections including the Estate.
Completion of all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and nuclear implicated work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business. The identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations to ensure the continued availability and performance of HMNB Clyde Submarines, Surface Vessels and the Estate.

You will work within all H&S legislation, Safe Systems of Work and control of work processes within BM&T Clyde policies. You will also work on a number of different tasks on a daily basis or can be involved in complex tasking taking several days or weeks to complete. There is a requirement to work at short notice may include the support of RN vessels abroad. You will act as mentor to colleagues and acts as an Apprentice Master giving guidance and instruction to one or more apprentices. You will also provide direction to Multi Skilled Operatives.

What do I need to do the role?
Experience and knowledge on the majority of the following:

  • HM Submarine and Ship Operating procedures
  • HM Submarine and Ship Tag-out procedures
  • Nuclear Procedures, Production Technical Instructions, Support Documentation
  • Relevant acceptance standards
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Relevant Quality Assurance documentation
  • COSHH & safe systems of work
  • Nuclear Reactor compartment & controlled area working
  • Manufacture and repair of components
  • In situ repair of components, including freeze seal watch keeping
  • A recognised Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship to at least N/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent and have gained at least a National Certificate in an engineering discipline
