Legal Counsel (Defence)
Based in Portsmouth, Andover or Bristol
Salary £ 60,000.00 - £ 85,000.00 plus excellent benefits

About the role
Here at Babcock we help our customers in the UK and around the world by delivering bespoke and highly-skilled engineering services. Right now we're looking for a Legal Counsel to join us in one of our offices - either Portsmouth, Andover or Bristol.

As our Legal Counsel (Defence) you'll primarily support our Defence business but also the wider group (comprising of Marine, Land, Aviation and Nuclear divisions) as necessary by providing legal support and advice to our bid, commercial and procurement teams. You'll do this by drafting and advising on projects, commercial contracts, developing and implementing compliance programmes, delivering training to the business and legal reporting.

This is a multifaceted and challenging role that will see you engaging at all levels of the business, from 'shop floor' all the way up to board level. In return we offer a high level of exposure and the opportunity to get hands-on with a variety of projects and people. You'll also receive all the benefits and support you'd expect from an International company.

What do I need to do the role?
First and foremost you'll need to hold a degree at 2:1 or above and also be a Qualified Solicitor with 3 to 7 years PQE. You'll have a background in outsourcing and/or projects work, with experience and knowledge of public procurement law. We'd also ideally like you to have at least 2 years PQE in a private practice.
Lastly, given the nature of the role, we'd like you to have strong communications skills, with the confidence you'll need to engage with board members and those at senior levels within the business.

What else do I need to know?
• The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
• We are happy to talk about flexible working. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
• You must have the flexibility to travel to Babcock sites as part of this role, including access to our Donnington/Telford site once a week (travel costs are supported).
