About us:

Our vision is to be a world class professional body, equipping members with the skills and knowledge to prevent crime, protect the public and secure public trust. The quality of our services, the support for our members and a reputation for cutting-edge research and teaching will have a profound effect on the future development of policing in the UK and overseas for years to come.

We have four complementary functions:
  • Knowledge: developing the research and infrastructure for improving evidence of 'what works'. Over time, this will ensure policing practice and standards are based on knowledge, not custom and convention.
  • Education: supporting the development of individual members of the profession. We set educational requirements to assure the public of the quality and consistency of policing skills, and facilitate academic accreditation and recognition of our members' expertise.
  • Standards: drawing on the best available evidence of 'what works' to set standards in policing for forces and individuals, for example, through Authorised Professional Practice and peer review.
  • Building the College: developing our infrastructure so we achieve even greater efficiency and effectiveness and establish the College as an independent professional body and employer of choice.

Applications are invited for the post of Business Improvement Manager

This is an exciting new role in our newly established Business Improvement Team. The successful candidate will have the energy, enthusiasm and drive to help embed business improvement in the culture of the College, removing bureaucracy from our internal processes to ensure the College is in optimum shape to support both its internal workforce and policing. You will identify and lead a wide range of internal improvement projects that will support delivery of our newly developed 'Plan on a Page'. You will also lead on benefits realisation as a key part of your role, ensuring organisational resource is focussed on activities that add value and have a positive impact on policing.

The successful candidate will adopt a transformational approach to business improvement, providing expert guidance and assistance to colleagues across a diverse range of teams. Your ability to confidently plan and lead internal business improvement engagement, combined with your practical knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques, will support teams in developing new ways of working and help us maximise the efficiency of our internal processes.

You will demonstrate effective leadership skills, a strong propensity to work collaboratively with others, and have significant experience of leading change initiatives and overcoming resistance to change in a positive manner.

This is a high-profile role, working on major initiatives that have the potential to transform policing in England & Wales.

All applicants must hold a degree or equivalent level 6 qualification, or equivalent experience in a related subject and be able to evidence commitment to continuing professional development. You must hold a recognised business improvement qualification or have significant experience of applying recognised business improvement techniques and be able to evidence this at interview.

Please see job description for full details of the role.

Applications will be sifted against the 'Essential criteria' section of the job description.

Additional information and eligibility:

If this post is London-based, the salary range will be: £33,237 to £39,798 working 36 hours per week.
If this post is nationally based, the salary range will be: £28,200 to £34,189 working 37 hours per week.

New entrants are normally appointed at the pay scale minimum for their grade although there is some scope for negotiation based on skills and experience.

Existing staff and civil servants should note that, if successful, their salary on appointment would normally be determined by applying the College's usual salary progression rules. If the appointment is on level transfer, your substantive salary (excluding any allowances) will remain unchanged (unless it exceeds the maximum stated within the College pay band) and unless the successful candidate's current salary is below the relevant College grade minimum. If the appointment is on temporary or substantive promotion, the successful candidate's salary will be increased by the appropriate promotion percentage or moved to the relevant College grade minimum, whichever is the greater.

This post is open to UK nationals, Commonwealth citizens, EEA nationals of other member states and certain non-EEA family members. There must be no employment restriction or time limit on your permitted stay in the UK. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three years, and in some cases five or even 10 years, preceding your application due to the requirement to have a checkable history for security vetting purposes. If you answer 'No' to the questions regarding nationality, then it is unlikely your application will be pursued. If you are unsure as to your eligibility on any of these points, please contact us for advice.

College posts are subject to both national security vetting and force vetting requirements.
