We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Application Support Engineer to join our busy and growing team within Information systems. This role will be one of our technical leads supporting NATS' UK Air Traffic Management (ATM) services. You will be ensuring that service resilience is maintained throughout the service lifecycle and continual service improvement is applied, specifically for our Information systems. These are critical controller facing applications used to safely move over 7000 aircraft every day. As the Technical expert you will be responsible for supporting the Service Delivery Manager in delivering and operating a key national critical service supporting UK aviation.

Responsibilities :
  • Application of domain expert knowledge to assigned/escalated Incidents, prioritising, diagnosing and resolving them using agreed procedures resulting in restoration of service resilience.
  • Application of wider Air Traffic Management (ATM) domain experience will be applied to lead the resolution, of complex, first of type incidents.
  • Provides the operational expertise and is accountable for the analysis of Service Events and Incidents to initiate and undertake Problem Management activities in order to continuously improve service provision.
  • Accountable for the publication, coverage and correctness of Knowledge Articles.
  • Collaborate with Service Designers and third party suppliers..
  • Responsible for ensuring service configuration processes and tools are applied so that the CMDB remains accurate, complete and current.
  • Responsible for effective application of risk management processes.
  • Responsible for the technical aspects of the service catalogue, and for assessment and implementation of assigned Changes.
  • Understand, contribute to and align activities with NATS' cyber security policies. Assist NATS Cyber security Operations Centre as subject matter experts.

There may be a need to provide telephone support or attend out of hours for service restoration, or to deploy service changes. This post is likely to be liable for on-call as part of the 24 hour support organisation in the early stages of operation.


Qualifications and Skills
    Degree in an Engineering or IT related discipline and relevant experience in a safety or financial critical industry. Applicants who do not hold the relevant qualification but have undertaken structured training and have extensive relevant experience will be considered.Good knowledge of ITIL Service Lifecycle Management practises.Experience of working in automated and virtualised environments where a software-defined architecture is prevalent. RedHat Certified Engineer qualification (RHCE Level 3) or above, or demonstrated Linux ability to this level. Ability to write bash/awk scripts to automate system tasks/cron jobs and diagnose coding errors. Experience in undertaking network packet analysis using WireShark and determining results from captures to fix problems.Effective Oral and written Communication and interpersonal skills
UK Air Traffic Management is a safety critical environment, and part of Critical National Infrastructure, so you will be required to pass and hold SC level UK Security Clearance.
