The Candidate

We are seeking an experienced CIS Engineer with a strong background in delivery. You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills and be used to working within geographically disparate teams. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience of working on projects for NATO, the MoD, civil service the wider armed forces or Defence. 

The role

Role responsibilities:

  • provide expertise in design and analysis of CIS architectures, equipment, and system technical specifications to meet the approved requirements;
  • provide technical solution proposals for the development of new or replacement CIS architecture;
  • provide engineering evaluations and recommendations in the CIS architecture/design of existing communications and IT equipment;
  • provide advice and assistance to resolve technical problems related operational and systems integration requirements;
  • ensure the inventory and versioning control of architectures and designs of CIS, mainly of network infrastructure and related applications and data, including custodian of repository;
  • manage, plan and supervise the coordination and review process for the CIS architecture/design, including upgrade of network infrastructure and related applications and systems;
  • provide support for the design and implementation of network monitoring tools, applications, and dashboards for Operations & Control and Alerts;
  • coordinate the discussion and elaboration of technical and security details of required solutions, in close coordination of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs);
  • prepare written technical documentation throughout the planning and implementation of CIS initiatives

The opportunity 

This is a great opportunity for a CIS professional to work supporting NATO projects. An integral member of the team, the incumbent will be responsible for providing support and assistance to the team in delivery of the mission, specifically relating to support on network and application system issues which affect the operation and maintenance of CIS environments, including staging, pre-production and production environments. The location of this role will be in the new NATO HQ based in Brussels, Belgium, so would suit those already residing, or who have the ability to relocate without company visa assistance.

Minimum Requirements

  • University Degree and function related experience, or significant post related experience.
  • General experience in all lifecycle aspects of Communication Information Systems (CIS) aimed at achieving effective system development and deployment.
  • Sound technical knowledge on wide area networks and local area networks.
  • Ability to manage, coordinate and supervise.
  • Experience in the development and use of Information Technologies to include  the range of activities involved in planning, organising, coordinating, and assessing the CIS related activities to accomplish assigned functions and tasks.
  • Detailed knowledge of CIS architectural design as applied to computer systems.
  • Experience in developing technical policy level documents; in CIS and in services management.
  • Experience in implementing CIS security criteria and associated applications, assessing the effectiveness of security software, resolving problems.
  • Formal Project Management certification at foundation level (e.g. PMP or PRINCE2).
  • Formal ITIL certification at least at foundation level.
  • Experience with MS-Office Suite, Visio and MS Office applications.
  • Extensive experience in project management and technical coordination of engineering projects in the areas of requirements specifications, architectural design, development, implementation, test and evaluation.
  • Analytical, problem solving and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain NATO Security Clearance. 
  • Must be a citizen of one of the 29 NATO member nations.
  • Must meet requirements to reside and work in Belgium.
