Experience/Qualifications

3+ years' experience in a development environment, including involvement with technical testing

Ability to write test plans, test reports, test strategy and user guides

Strong coding skills including relevant scripting languages:

  • Software languages e.g. Java, C++, C#
  • Script languages e.g. Python, Shell Scripts, Perl
  • Appreciation of the technical life cycle
  • Competency and proven ability in the use of MS Team Foundation Server and HP Application Lifecycle Management 12.x to maintain test suites, execution of tests and defect tracking
  • ISEB Foundation/Practitioner Qualification
  • Experience of Selenium or other test automation tools

Desirable, but not essential -

  • Proven experience of a variety of management tools including:
  • Test and defect management tools (e.g. HP ALM, JIRA, Bamboo)
  • Automated Build Tools (e.g. BAMBOO)
  • Automated Deployment Tools (e.g. Puppet)
  • Agile Workflow Tools/ Defect Management (e.g. JIRA)
  • IDE Frameworks (e.g. Eclipse)
  • Understanding of design principles (OO, UML, RUP)
  • Understanding of relational and non-relational data sets e.g. Oracle, Hadoop, SQL Server, NoSQL

Responsibilities

  • Define, execute and automate key tests to verify functional and non-functional requirements through various phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Write/Create Automation Scripts (Design, Implement & Execute)
  • Analyse test requirements, designs and produces re-usable test scripts and procedures (with expected results) to test new and amended software to be executed by self and other staff
  • Develop and help maintain new and existing software automation tools (COTS/ bespoke)
  • Design and execute security tests
  • Identify process improvements and contribute towards improving best practices for continuous integration for both development and assurance
  • Communicate effectively; classify defects, document test failures and successes when compared with pre-determined criteria in accordance with agreed standards
  • Interface with software, infrastructure and other technical business teams
