Cyber Radio Frequency Research and Development Engineer - Permanent - Gloucestershire - Excellent Salary

Applying well-rounded software, hardware and communications engineering skills, the candidate will work upon a variety of research and development challenges to deliver cutting edge Electronic Warfare and Cyber (EW & C). Initially, the ideal candidate shall be able to work autonomously under the technical lead's general direction and shall be capable of shaping the task order's technical objectives. As the EW&C portfolio expands, the candidate shall assume a technical leadership role, leading teams to deliver specific work packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with various hardware, software and communications components to develop bespoke hardware, software and communications systems for a diverse client range.
  • Apply their specific knowledge, combined with ingenuity and creativity to develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Contribute to the strategy development for the EW & C related systems activities performed within the programme.
  • Work with business development teams to propose solutions that will expand the current portfolio of work.
  • Represent the organization as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on contracts and projects.
  • Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in developing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms and architectures (fast Fourier transforms, filter banks, multi-rate processing, image processing).
  • Experience of Radio Frequency (RF) communication theory and communication system design.
  • Working knowledge of Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies, including GNURadio or REDHAWK.
  • C++, Python or Embedded C.
  • Experience in FPGA technologies and languages, e.g. VHDL or Verilog.
  • Software and hardware testing using frameworks such as Jenkins.
  • Vulnerability research.
  • Penetration testing.
  • Development or administration of embedded Linux systems.
  • Ability to undertake technical assurance.

  • Problem solving: a methodical problem analysis approach to determine the root cause of issues.
  • The ability to learn technologies quickly and to disseminate knowledge to peers.
  • A passion for the technologies used within the EW & C domain.
  • A desire for professional development, to expand skills, knowledge and experience of the EW & C environment.
  • A high-level of integrity and professionalism.
