Summary

To provide commercial support to the Communication, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (CISR) business in bidding for and managing contracts with domestic and overseas customers to ensure the financial and commercial interests of the Company are optimised. Support to the achievement of financial targets and ensuring that contractual obligations and associated risks are adequately dealt with are a key function of this role.

Objectives/Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, to carry out the following activities:

  • To serve as a focal point of contact for customers regarding contractual matters by establishing and managing good customer relationships and communications.

  • To provide support and guidance to the business regarding pricing, terms and conditions and commercial issues as well as regulatory requirements.

  • To provide a key pro-active service to support the Programme Manager, Commercial Manager and the project teams.

  • To challenge and support project teams with respect to project controls, variations, risk management and progress.

  • To ensure that proposals/tenders are priced, developed and approved in accordance with company processes and policies.

  • To ensure that commercial policies and procedures and regulatory requirements are followed, consistently across the business and improved where necessary.

  • To support and lead commercial discussions and negotiations with customers; prepare and review the response to new contracts and amendments to existing contracts and arrange for their approval.

  • To prepare/review proposed contractual agreements (NDAs, TAAs, Teaming Agreements, Contracts etc.)

  • To support the Supply Chain function in complex sub-contract negotiations; identifying appropriate flow down of terms and conditions.

  • To implement trade control compliance and provide export/import advice across the projects for military and/or dual use products, services and/or technology to ensure compliance with trade legislation and regulations

  • Maintain contractual records, documentation of key correspondence, status and reports.

  • Ability to recognise potential commercial issues and risks
  • Prepared to travel within UK and overseas
  • SC cleared (or can be)
  • Full driving licence


Qualifications

The candidate will ideally be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Business or Law. IACCM, MCIPS or equivalent qualification preferred but not essential.

Security
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.

The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.

Grade

This position is within the DST business unit.

This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in the vibrant city of Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England. Business Area- Devonport

Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport - one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.

Babcock and the Ministry of Defence work in partnership to operate and maintain this co-located site by providing through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment.

Babcock has a large design and technology capability providing a wide range of support activities including feasibility and project definition studies, detail design and draughting, development trials, noise and vibration analysis, structural analysis, project management, integrated logistic support and risk management.
