Role Overview
 
To perform all Mechanical & Piping Engineering work in support of winning and delivering large scale process-engineering themed projects for our key markets including marine and offshore liquefied gas transportation/storage and onshore petrochemical with end-customers of major worldwide shipyards and oil majors.
 
The candidate should have experience in mechanical and piping systems design and analysis.
 
Role Function
 
  • Design activities associated with marine and onshore liquefied gas plants, ensuring safe and economical design while striving for continuous improvement.
  • Development of piping system designs to satisfy technical specifications, in collaboration with client and project team.
  • Development of cost effective technical solutions.
  • Preparation of technical datasheets, material lists, calculations, engineering reports and operating/installation/commissioning procedures.
  • Supporting development of plant layouts and plant 3D models.
  • Review, checking and approval of piping isometrics, support drawings and bill of materials.
  • Supporting the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).
  • Evaluation of vendor quotations for mechanical/piping equipment.
  • Providing engineering support to manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning stages.
  • Chair and contribute to Design Review meetings.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to colleagues.
  • Communications with regulatory bodies, clients and vendors.
  • Adhering to company policies and procedures.

  • Clear and confident communicator
  • Fluency in the English language (verbal and written)
  • Able to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly motivated with an attention to detail
  • Ability to lead tasks and work to tight timescales
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Capable of supporting Graduate Engineers
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions.
  • Experience gained in a similar position ideally from a highly regulated industry. This could be from but is not limited to Defence, Pharmaceutical or Oil & Gas
  • Good working knowledge of MathCAD, AutoCAD, AutoPIPE (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Experience working to design codes (experience of ASME VIII, ASTM, BS and EN codes is desirable)
  • Pipe Stress Analysis (PSA) and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is desirable.
  • Experience of the following is desirable:
  • Piping and piping components (valves, pipe supports, etc)
  • Pressure vessels
  • Hydraulic systems & equipment
  • Mechanical process equipment (pumps, compressors, etc)
  • Material selection
  • Manufacturing/fabrication methods
  • Structural design and analysis
  • Vibration analysis and mitigation
  • Cryogenic piping applicationsReporting to the Team Leader - Buying, the main tasks and activities of this function are: -
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience). Preferably Chartered accreditation.
  • 5+ years relevant experience  
    Security
    Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
    The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services.  This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.

    Based at Rosyth Business Park on the Firth of Forth at Rosyth, which is 3 miles south of Dunfermline. Rosyth is less than 15 miles from Edinburgh. As the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is a vibrant city with something for everyone. It's home to the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh Castle and famous festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Edinburgh International Festival and Hogmanay Street Party.
