Principal Safety Engineer required to develop and support the delivery of safety artefacts to enable vehicle demonstration trials and in service use. Specifically the post holder will be responsible for:

Collating safety evidence in support of System Safety Case development.

Providing proactive safety engineering support to the programme.

Authorship of both system and subsystem level safety artefacts.

Support reviews with the stakeholder community as appropriate.

Typical activities will include:

Working for the Safety Manager in the conduct of system safety engineering task activities covering the complete safety programme life cycle.

Support a subcontractor(s) with the generation of the product safety case(s) and other safety related documentation.

Active engagement with the systems engineering teams to ensure safety related information is at the required level of maturity for the stage of the programme.

Support and review of Environmental and Legislation artefacts.

Familiar with safety analysis techniques and tools, including FMECA, FFA, FTA, ETA, GSN, hazard logs and eCassandra©.

Lifecycle management of safety artefacts and support to change process.

Supporting the definition of safety acceptance tests for equipment prior to release for trials and integration activities.

Interfacing with customer and supplier safety management stakeholders.

Support safety working groups, safety committee meetings.

Ensure compliance with defined standards and company processes.

The successful candidate will have the below skills/experience:

Experience in producing Safety Cases in accordance with DEF STAN 00-56, JSP 454 and POSMS at System level including all primary sub-systems.

Experienced in producing compelling system safety arguments.

Derivation and setting of appropriate safety criteria/requirements.

Undertaking hazard identification, hazard analysis and risk assessment to include HAZOP, SWIFT, FMEA(CA), FTA, ETA, GSN techniques.

Producing and assessing tolerability and ALARP arguments.

Producing robust safety arguments and reports.

Familiar with recognized standards and procedures including Def Stan 00-56, IEC 61508, JSP 454, POSMS, JSP 375, JSP 815.

Understanding and application of safety and general purpose tool sets, e.g. FaultTree+, Cassandra and MS Office tools.

Understanding of software safety requirements and techniques.

Familiar with recognized standards and procedures including Def Stan 00-250, JSP 390, Def Stan 07-85, ISO 14001-2004.

Familiar with UK/EU current product legislation including LVD, EMC Directive, R&TTE Directive, RoHS, WEEE, Battery Directive and applicable vehicle/road usage Directives.

Formal qualification in Safety Engineering or Safety Management.

Health and Safety qualification (NEBOSH or equivalent).

Environmental qualification and POEMS experience.

Candidates must be willing to undergo the security vetting procedure.
