Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is long-established and respected global provider of advanced RF and microwave solutions. They have been supplying the electronic defence market for over 35 years and has an established reputation as a world leader in the supply and development of microwave products.

As Mechanical Design Engineer you will take basic outline design information and applying practical methods and theory, transform it into a mechanical design fit for purpose using Inventor (3D modelling). Creating AutoCAD drawings using Inventor that conform to both BS8888 and company standards. You will be working closely with the Electronic & RF Design Engineers to achieve the correct engineering solution for the design requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

To provide mechanical engineering design and drawings as part of the Design Engineering Team using Autodesk Inventor for component, assembly and complete product design
To design mechanical models and design for RF devices and sub systems
To provide mechanical design and drawing for jigs and fixtures
To provide mechanical verification and implementation for new and existing products
To ensure design for manufacture is applied throughout the project
To design, produce and update drawings ensuring that products are suitable for production
To attend and contribute to design, project and process improvement meetings.
To apply mechanical engineering best practice and design products for manufacturing, questioning design standards by suggesting cost effective, easier and improved solutions
Conduct research into new materials, parts and processes
Prepare documentation for and attend design reviews
Ensure procedures for the creation, storage and distribution of drawings are followed

Qualifications / Experience

3D AutoCAD Inventor experience.
City & Guilds/National Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Design
Mechanical engineering experience for RF products is desirable (hermetric packages, mircoelectronics)
Working knowledge of Thermal and Mechanical Finite Element Analysis
Be able to prioritise and have a pro-active approach to work.
Experience of using AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop within a Mechanical Manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
