A technically capable Unix engineer able to support manage and administer Solaris servers in a high secure environment.  

Areas of Responsibility:
Technical input and ownership of changes to the Solaris platforms.
Deep integration working within cross technology teams.
Follow (and provide input to) strict high assurance procedures.

Key Tasks:
Manage and administrate the Unix component on all the Operational and Development Unix platforms which consist of Oracle Solaris O.S version 10 and 11 on Sparc processor Fujitsu hardware.
Plan and lead project deployments to platforms where Unix Oracle Solaris is the main or a major component. Besides O.S and update management, this also includes installs or updates to Oracle DB software, Oracle software such as Java and the software Oracle Solaris Studio.
Compliance with version control procedures in order to deploy system changes. Produce and update documentation that can vary from high-level tick lists to deep technical build and install instructions and records. Attend and contribute to meetings that approve system changes to operational and development platforms.
Troubleshoot and resolve reported help-desk issues.

Essential Experience:
In depth Unix (preferably Solaris) knowledge and experience of deploying, upgrading and updating unix systems.
In depth knowledge of virtualisation on unix (preferably Solaris) platforms
Ability to manage unix (preferably Solaris) platforms directly from command line

Desired Experience:
In depth Unix knowledge and experience of deploying, upgrading and updating Oracle Solaris O.S versions 10 and 11 on Sparc hardware.
In depth knowledge of managing Sparc hardware and be comfortable using the Command Line Interpreter (CLI) in a terminal or console. Use of Unix CLI text editing tools and commands such as vi, grep, find should be “second nature”.
In depth knowledge and experience deploy and manage Oracle Solaris Virtual Machines (VMs), known as Logical Domains (LDOMs) on supported Sparc hardware.

Person Competencies:

Will be working as part of an integrated multi-technology team
Appreciation, acceptance and adherence to the constraints of working on highly classified defence platforms.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain Developed Vetting security clearance as part of this role.

The role is based in Wiltshire, but may involve travel both within and outside of UK
