The Role:

An In Barracks Equipment Support (IBES) is an adaptable, vehicle Technician who can work independently or with other Technicians/FSR’s to provide vehicle maintenance and advice to MOD at static unit locations. The IBES will be based at MOD barrack Repair Facility locations throughout the UK, where the AJAX variants are deployed. The IBES, whilst working a normal planned day will also be free to work extended hours and some weekends when required.

The candidate will be trained by the FSR Lead mainly in Merthyr Tydfil. This position is located at Bovington.

Essential Skills:

  • MOD unit Technical focal point for all vehicle related matters including modifications and defect reporting.
  • Assess battle damage, warranty faults and recommend rectification procedures.
  • Provide field feedback on technical issues and support System.
  • Carrying out all levels 1/2 repairs on AJAX Variants and also upgrades / modifications, as per Design changes.
  • Perform business support administration (timesheets, procurement of equipment, stocktaking, collect and report data) using provided IT (GDLS-UK and MOD)
  • Document, maintain and improve Work Instructions (including strip down, non-destructive testing, etc.)
  • Working outside of a 9 to 5 routine as required (this could involve weekends).

Education/Experience:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of automotive systems and how they work together. Including CANbus systems, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Highly customer focused with good communication skills.
  • IT literate with working knowledge of automotive diagnostic systems
  • Ability to share knowledge within the team
  • Practical knowledge of JAMES to record repair activities
  • In depth Armoured Fighting Vehicle experience
  • Fully qualified vehicle technician with experience.
  • Military VM1 / NVQ and/or City & Guilds Level 3: City and Guilds Pt1 and Pt2 (Motor Vehicle Technicians) City and Guilds Pt3 (Wheeled and Tracked Technology) Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical) Level 3 Diploma in Engineering - Military Vehicles
  • Full UK Driving license including Category H, legally allowed to drive in the UK.
  • Certified Driver/Maintainer for at least one SV (AJAX) vehicle type
  • City & Guilds Level 3: City and Guilds Pt1 and Pt2 (Motor Vehicle Craft Studies) City and Guilds Pt2 (General, Light Vehicle Technology)
  • Member of a Professional Institution (e.g. IET, IMechE) with professional recognition
