General Description of Job
 
To act as the commercial support to  the Commercial  Managers for a portfolio of contracts and bids  and provide commercial services and support to internal customers from adjacent functions (finance, business development etc.).
 
This is a permanent position based, minimum 37 hours a week, with a requirement for regular business travel.
 
Main Tasks
 
  • Commercial management of contracts including managing relationships with customers, partners, conducting negotiations, issue identification, and problem resolution.
  • Commercial evaluation and management of change requests and associated contract amendments, ensuring that the contract baseline is up to date.
  • Support bid activity by assisting in preparing and reviewing commercial proposals, including terms and conditions, in order to minimise company risks.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements with relevant parties.
  • Administration of contract management tools and registers, ensuring that commercial control is maintained throughout the relevant projects' lifecycle.
  • Undertaking due diligence assessment.
  • Generate presentation material to be presented in relevant forums (including department, business, sector and group level audiences).
  • Provide general support to the Commercial Managers, including being the focal point for adjacent functions, and the wider business where necessary.
  • Positively administer compliance with our internal policies and procedures, as regards commercial practice in respect of all tasks assigned.
  • Support the Commercial team in meeting its objectives.
  • Other tasks consistent with the role.
 
Technical Experience and Qualifications
 
Essential
 
  • Strong commercial acumen with the drive to succeed to achieve outstanding results
  • Comfortable in applying relevant tools and techniques to support decisions and thinking creatively about problems and problem solving solutions
  • Experienced in instilling a culture of collaboration and leading by example in actions, delivery and behaviours
  • Experience of Ministry of Defence (MOD) contracting
  • Skilled computer user (standard office packages)
  • Experience of contract management including diligent document control, reporting, drafting
  • SC Clearance
  • Driving licence
 
Desirable
 
  • Basic understanding of contract law, as well as an understanding of service/outsourcing contracts
  • Degree qualified in Business, Engineering, Law or similar subject
  • Commercial and business awareness together with understanding of contract management including diligent document control, reporting, drafting
  • Previous practical experience developing proposals
  • Demonstrable ability to successfully support and conduct negotiations with third parties, (both internal and external stakeholders)
