Our client is a leading aerospace, avionics, and defence engineering company in the UK, designing and manufacturing projects for such clients as the UK MOD for military and civil purposes for the last 80 years.

We are looking for a Principal Design Certification Engineer to work specifically on Helicopter services MOD projects as they hold two DAOS signatories. Note this is not a CVE role, you will put together the design scope and find external companies that can take on the work or see if the internal design team can do it. Financial acumen and project management skills shall be used to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.

As a key team member of the Airworthiness team, your job is to understand the designs, project manage and find organisations that can do the modifications and repairs, looking after helicopters and fixed wing but primarily rotary wing.

As Principal Design Certification Engineer your main responsibilities will include:

Managing the activities of the DAOS CDO (Design Approved Organization Scheme), liaising with the MAA/TAA, internal and external Design Organisations with respect to the certification of modifications or repairs for fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
Shall oversee the product's or project's conception, design and initial product specifications and manage scheduling, estimating and completion of design data.
Working primarily within the MoD 1000 and 5000 series Regulatory Articles, your role shall manage work authorisation forms raised by the MoD customer for the modification, specifications per RA 1014 and to arrange for competent design organisations
Liaise with the Office of Airworthiness on all matters relating to the initial and continued airworthiness of design changes.
Compile design data as authorised by the Head of Design or Design Airworthiness Manager.
Incorporate authorised changes/updates to design data.
Maintain drawing and document registers.
Act as or support the Design Focal engineer(s) in design review meetings
Regular liaison with internal/external manufacturing departments and suppliers to ensure any related issues are resolved, and deadlines met.
Work effectively as a key member in a team environment, liaising closely with in-house colleagues.
Provide clear communication

Qualifications and Requirements

Degree or HND/HNC or OND/ONC in mechanical or aeronautical engineering, or related industrial experience (this should be evidenced by the employment history on your CV).
Have a clear understanding of airworthiness, aircraft components and/or system design requirements, materials and manufacturing processes.
3D CAD proficient
Able to produce calculations in support of the design activity.
A working knowledge of regulatory requirements, i.e. EASA, CAA, MAA.
Confident nature in order to present to clients
Any background Military or Civil, Fixed wing or Rotary
A willingness to travel, anticipated 10% of the time
Part 21 Organisation experience will be given preference.
