Role Description

We currently have an opportunity for an Assembly Fitter to join our Production function working within Defence Systems Technology (DST), Bristol.

DST is a business unit within the Marine Sector of Babcock International Group. Working on a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, DST works with a number of key clients domestically and internationally. We're based at a number of sites in the UK and overseas. The business continues to win new work and grow at a significant pace, as a result we are recruiting for talented, enthusiastic and driven people.

Responsibilities

Detail fitting and assembly of naval and marine defence equipment and other associated duties including lifting, slinging and support to other production departments as required.

Required Experience / Qualifications

  • Time served apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in use of hand, mechanical and hydraulic assembly tools.
  • Experience of light and heavy assembly work on assemblies and sub-assemblies to close tolerances.
  • Experience of drilling and tapping to close tolerances.
  • Fettling to close tolerances with hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to work from and understand technical drawings including geometric tolerances.
  • Working at height and confined spaces.
  • Lifting and slinging of items using heavy cranes up to 30T.
  • Experience working safely within health and safety boundaries.
  • Experience working to high quality standards.
  • Team player who can work well in a close knit team.

Location

Bristol is a vibrant city in south west England with a wide range of attractions, landmarks, events and shopping. It has excellent transport links and is only 1.5 hours from London by train.

Security

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.

The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
