Energy & Marine is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the offshore, marine and defence markets worldwide.  Within this business unit, Naval Engineering have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.

The Technical Support Services Team was set up to support Devonport Royal Dockyard with the Production of Technical Installation, Set-to-Work and Maintenance documents on both Royal Navy Surface Ships and Submarines for all Business Units throughout the Devonport Site. These are in the form of Functional Procedures (Engineering), known as FP03(E)'s.
 
 
Main Purpose of Role
 
  • Prepare technical documentation for implementation of engineering projects
 
  • Provide assistance (within level of competence) to the group leader
 
  • Researching ,preparation and update of technical handbooks ,procedures and engineering standards
 
  • Liaise with internal and external company sources for research into content of technical documentation and procedures
 
  • Interpretation and validation of information for inclusion within specifications and handbooks
 
  • Attend meetings to discuss and advise on technical handbooks specifications and procedures
 
  • Update procedure index & forms register on the Babcock SharePoint site
 
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
 
  • Analyse / develop / produce customer's requirements or brief to established engineering principals.
 
  • Have a very good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and be competent in producing high quality procedures
 
  • To work in a structured way insuring efficient use of time
 
  • Have safety awareness and full realisation of the importance of this culture
 
  • Support the team to deliver excellent customer service to Time, Cost and Quality
 
  • Experience of classification and regulatory  requirements within a Maritime environment would be desirable
 
  • Present a professional image at all times whether in the office or at on-site visits
 
  • Liaise with Project/Production/contractors/equipment suppliers to overcome
 
  • installation problems and provide support with technical queries
 
 
Qualifications
 
ONC with appropriate apprenticeship & experience in structural/Mechanical/Electrical engineering preferably in a design or marine environment or substantial experience within Design environment.
 
 
Security
 
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
 
 
Grade
 
This position is within the Energy and Marine business unit as a grade 3 which has a salary of £30,555 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.

This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in the vibrant city of Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England. Plymouth is a city with a long and proud military history and more than its fair share of heritage. Business Area- Devonport
 
Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport - one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
 
Babcock and the Ministry of Defence work in partnership to operate and maintain this co-located site by providing through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment.
 
Babcock has a large design and technology capability providing a wide range of support activities including feasibility and project definition studies, detail design and draughting, development trials, noise and vibration analysis, structural analysis, project management, integrated logistic support and risk management.
