In this role, you will:
 
The Integrated Welding Team (IWT) manager will be responsible for management and leadership of the Integrated Welding Team.  The manager will work closely with the Babcock Engineering and Project Team as well as Victoria Shipyards Limited Operations and Production Teams within an integrated project team (IPT). As this is a new role and team the manager will be responsible for developing the team and structure from the bottom up, which will challenge the new leader to successfully deliver from concept into practice. The ideal candidate will have experience with welding, weld inspection, structural engineering, or naval architecture and possess the leadership skills to perform within an integrated team environment.
 
 
  • Be responsible for occupational Health and Safety of all direct reports under his/her supervision
  • Ensure that submarine safety and material certification requirements are key considerations for work output
  • Prioritize the IWT workload to meet the project schedule and setting targets for developing / providing technical welding information
  • Engage and lead stakeholders to provide timely welding support to the Integrated Project Team
  • Develop detailed policies and procedures which will allow the team to efficiently deliver welding packages into HMCS Corner Brook's Extended Docking Work Period.
  • Develop metrics and planning tools to measure the effectiveness of the team
  • Develop the Terms of Reference for IWT members and fill the positions with appropriately qualified personnel
  • Develop short and long range resource plans as required.
  • Actively seek out and implement opportunities for improvements around efficiency/product quality
  • Develop a comprehensive communication plan to roll out the IWT to the IPT and the customer.
 
 
As our ideal candidate,
 
  • Eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
  • Degree in Engineering, accreditation as a Welding Technologist (or equivalent) or significant experience and exposure to welding activities in the marine sector
  • 3-5 years' experience in the marine work environment or other similar environment
  • Minimum 5 years leadership and management experience
  • Experience of vessel refits or build activities is highly desirable
  • Experience in welded marine and/or industrial construction or repair is highly desirable
  • Interests and technical knowledge bases in welding metallurgy, process controls, testing standards is highly desirable
  • Excellent written, verbal, electronic reporting and data communication skills
  • Project management experience is an asset
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Familiarity with standard computer applications, primarily Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Solid understanding of welding regulations, requirements and standards
  • Demonstrating a high standard of business conduct and ethics; dealing with all situations and issues with integrity and honesty
  • Working with and coordinating the activities of people; with attention and energy focused on coordinating various activities to meet schedules and complete assigned tasks
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to understand and interpret complex specifications, drawings, and data
  • Good planning, time management and scheduling abilities
  • Ability to think and act clearly under pressure
