Seismic Engineering - Technical Authority

Closing Date - 02/07/18

It's an exciting time to join the Compliance function at AWE, we are transforming the way we work and continuing to support the demand of the business. Working for one of the area's largest employers and enjoying an excellent work/life balance, we can offer a competitive basic salary plus generous holiday entitlement, nine day working fortnight, workplace pension scheme and additional flexible benefits scheme.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced structural engineer in the field of seismic engineering to join AWE's highly regarded Engineering Design Authority team.

As the Seismic Technical Authority you will support the Chief Engineer to ensure that designs of structures, systems and components, that are uniquely complex to AWE and UK, are safe and functional. You will own and update the corporate seismic technical standards, to a level that reflects contemporary developments and adherence to which will ensure industry best practice.

You will be the focal point for advice, information and expertise about policy, best practice and seismic engineering knowledge within the Civil, Structural Engineering and Architecture team.

Successful candidates will have experience in design of structures, systems and components to Euro Codes and International seismic design standards (principally US) in a full range of materials and configurations. They will have good knowledge of UK safety legislation and ideally will have gained

some design experience in nuclear sector.

Candidates will be expected to be qualified to a minimum of degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, preferably with a post graduate qualification in Seismic Engineering, be professionally recognised by an engineering body, be willing and able to work in designated areas and be able to obtain and maintain the necessary clearance for the role.

AWE plays a crucial role in the defence of the United Kingdom, by providing and maintaining the warheads for the country's nuclear deterrent. We are a centre of scientific, engineering and technological excellence, with some of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world. Our unique expertise also assists the UK Government in developing and delivering a range of innovative and integrated support services, including national nuclear security and counter-terrorism solutions.

AWE is an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity and welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from sections of the community which are currently under-represented at AWE, including women, BAME and applicants with disabilities.
