Vessel Leak Test Equipment Lead Engineer

This role is focussed on the delivery of pressure and high vacuum systems for the seal integrity verification of high value, heavy-construction, steel pressure vessels. The role incumbent will be responsible for delivery of leak testing solutions (which includes equipment and processes) across three containment pressure vessel types for the TEUTATES programme.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Leak Test Equipment Lead Engineer will be part of a delivery-focussed project team, working with AWE and external stakeholders, to ensure the correct leak testing capability is delivered to schedule and cost.
The strategy for delivery of the leak testing capability is to generate a vessel leak testing philosophy and schedule in-house, before generating requirements and engaging the supply chain to deliver equipment and processes. The Leak Test Equipment Lead Engineer will be accountable to the Senior Engineering Manager for ensuring the supply chain delivers this capability.
Candidates must have outstanding technical skills in the area of pressure and vacuum systems, together with relevant experience of delivering equipment within a highly-regulated industry. Candidates must also have strong management skills, as the role demands interaction with AWE, CEA, MoD and our suppliers. Relevant experience of successfully using these technical and managerial skills is expected.
Specific technical skill and knowledge requirements include:
- Pressure and/or vacuum system design
- Pressure vessel design
- Preparation of technical specifications
- Industrial safety principles
- Materials selection
- Stress calculations
- Reviewing calculations
- Requirements verification and validation
- Design for manufacture
- Familiarity with relevant AWE design standards
- Familiarity with relevant national and international design codes
Specific non-technical skill and knowledge requirements include:
- Supplier management
- Direct management of one or more Senior Mechanical Engineers
- Schedule reporting
- Presentation skills
- Stakeholder management
The role is full-time and based at AWE Aldermaston. Travel to our delivery partner locations within the UK and infrequent trips to France will be required.
