Job Requirements

Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is:
  • To provide technical support to the sales and marketing team in the full capture life cycle from ideas generation to order closure for the maritime business stream. This includes :
    • To ensure that all company proposals are technically robust
    • To develop solution concepts as required in response to customer needs
    • To interpret and communicate customer technical requirements to the wider engineering team
    • Being the technical lead for all business capture activities in the maritime business stream
    • To support the development of marketing strategies and capture plans
    • To support the development of the Business Strategic Plan through the development of capability, technology and product roadmaps
  • To develop and own the PV investment requirements for the maritime business stream
  • To provide technical ownership and support to delivery programmes as required
  • To oversee all development activities in the maritime business stream to ensure maximum re-use of existing designs
  • To consider the technical capabilities we need either as permanent engineering team additions, temporary consultants, teaming partners, subcontractors to successfully secure and deliver business in the maritime business stream.
This role is expected to focus on the maritime integration capability which is defined as delivering total solutions, systems and equipment to naval new build and naval modernisation market place in the specific fields (but not limited to) combat systems, combat management system, gun fire control, ASW, propulsion.

Key Responsibilities

Capability Managers are Accountable for:
  • Developing and maintaining the Martine Integration Technology Roadmap, aligned to the Strategic Plan
  • The quality of the technical context of bids and proposals within the Martine Integration Business Stream

    Capability Managers are responsible for:
  • Writing technical content of bids and proposals (B&P);
  • Determining resource requirements for PV and bids and proposals / future orders and feeding these into the forward load;
  • Building and leading the cross-functional technical teams in support of PV and BNP
  • Raising the PV forms to get internal funding agreed
  • Identifying opportunities for, and securing external R&D funding to develop the Capability Area's product portfolio and ensure that business objectives are satisfied;

    Identifying competitive and technical threats to the successful realisation of the UECSS strategy and mitigate these where possible within the Capability Area;
  • Supporting the sales and marketing team in the identifying and development of new opportunities within the Capability Area;
  • Keeping appraised of technical developments and future technology within the business stream to ensure that the within the Capability Area's product portfolio evolves through progressive and disruptive innovation.
  • Performing a System Design Authority role on nominated projects;
  • Identifying, developing and implementing new or appropriate process and procedure improvements, to meet current and emergent engineering requirements in line with the business strategic vision and engineering best practice
  • Degree in a relevant subject (Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent qualification / experience.
  • Knowledge of Maritime Integration domain
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering best practices and common pitfalls.
  • Broad knowledge of Systems Engineering methodologies, processes and tools
  • Working knowledge / appreciation of software electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of fundamental commercial and financial issues.
  • Occasional need for worldwide travel and being away from home for reasonable lengths of time
