System Integration Engineer

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Systems Integration Engineer on a 3-6 months initial contract based in Newport. The role will act as the technical contact for Microsoft Infrastructure Services within projects in the business. The System Integration Engineer will install, configure, set to work, and informally test to confirm installation/integration successful, for IT Infrastructure environments in preparation for FAT and UAT

Key Responsibilities

  • Acceptance of products into the SRM, installation, data population and commissioning / testing of interfaces to a level where it can be established that the delivery and installation has been made successfully
  • Managing the configuration of the SRM environment with respect to applications and supporting components including data and interface test harnesses
  • Installation of patches and maintenance releases
  • Supporting System and Factory Testing
  • Defect analysis and diagnostics data collection
  • Support installation of components in product delivery teams environment to provide integration test environments
  • Deliver Integration solution (including order in which the products are integrated) that meets the defined requirements for the entire project
  • Define technical solutions for assigned elements as part of the IT Infrastructure Services team
  • Carry out Design reviews as "Subject Matter Expert"
  • Ensure that all solutions developed are documented to suitable levels as it relates to installation and integration.


  • The successful candidate will have proven capabilities and experience in the following areas;
  • Requires experience of large scale integration projects with a proven track record of being responsible for Environments in at least two similar successful COTS integration projects.
  • Structured requirements management techniques mapping requirements to design components
  • Data structure Modelling and message flow management
  • Working with third party COTS providers to integrate the third party products
  • Good understanding of performance tuning and testing techniques
  • Working knowledge of security principles and considerations for systems that form part of a Core/Critical National Infrastructure
  • Robust understanding of integration issues as viewed from a prime contractor and integrators perspective
  • A working knowledge of the following technologies
    1. Three tier architecture
    2. Virtualisation Technologies
    3. Blade Servers
    4. SAN Storage Systems
    5. Microsoft OS, Services and ApplicationsActive Directory, Security and Access Control measures (Firewalls, Anti Virus, IDS, PKI )
  • Active Directory
  • PKI systems
  • Anti-Virus Applications
  • Design of IT Security Measures
  • Windows Server Operating Systems
  • VB Scripting, Powershell Scripting
  • IP Address and Subnet assignment management
  • Good general design skills. (Note must be able to work in both the design space but also be hands on)
  • HyperV - experience inv design, management and support
  • Local and wide area networking, data centres, servers, backup and disaster recovery strategies and implementations.
  • Microsoft Exchange Server
  • Microsoft Forefront TMG Std 2010 Server
  • Microsoft Configuration Manager
  • Microsoft Configuration Operations Manager
  • Microsoft SQL Server
