Providing solutions across a range of military, civil and related high integrity systems including C4ISR, data links, weapon interfacing, vetronics, safety critical systems, electro-optical surveillance, tracking and gunfire control, navigation systems and data distribution and networking systems. Job Requirements

Job Purpose
To support and develop enhanced functionalities within Ultra's various Business Information systems. Principally this is within the company's recently implemented ERP system IFS. However, other key business systems also need to be supported such as the company's PDM/PLM system Windchill, together with other ancillary systems.

Responsible for achieving assigned engineering tasks and ensure timely delivery to customers.
To support the engineering department in order that both project and statutory requirements are met.
To improve the effectiveness of the electronic design function within the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Resolving technical problems associated with assigned products.
  • Providing design solutions for electrical/electronic equipment, taking into account EMC and environmental constraints.
  • PCB design using computer aided design tools.
  • Basic firmware and/or embedded software development, for prototype bring-up and testing.
  • Selection of component parts and obsolescence management.
  • Production of design documentation (includes technical and design proving reports/CE compliance and Product Test Specifications).
  • Identifying and helping manage technical risk in their area within projects and developments.
  • Providing adequate constructive challenge in design reviews to identify and mitigate any key issues.
  • Carrying out engineering activity in accordance with engineering procedures.
  • Ensure compliance to customer and quality requirements.
  • Provide support to other engineering functions during development and production (such as Mechanical, Production, Test, Systems and Software).
  • Investigation of faults down to component level.
  • Providing representation and presenting at internal and customer design reviews.
  • Provision of practical engineering support to other activities within CSS, where time and priorities permit.
  • Providing improvement suggestions for the processes and procedures in which the team operate.
  • There may be additional activities to perform from time to time in order to maximise the contribution to the company's goals and objectives.
  • Ensuring the development and manufacturing costs for new projects can be minimised.
  • Delivery of work packages to time, cost and quality requirement.
  • Ensuring compliance of the design to the technical, business and project requirements.
  • Ensuring the design is under suitable configuration control.

Personal Attributes

  • Good electronics engineering or physics degree or equivalent
  • Analogue/Power/High speed digital design including specification, schematic capture, PCB layout and prototype debugging.
  • Knowledge of electronic engineering best practices and common pitfalls.
  • Broad knowledge of electronic engineering methodologies processes and tools.
  • Design for EMC compliance and Knowledge of EMC and safety standards such as BS EN 60950 and 62368.
  • Knowledge and understanding of design for manufacture (DFM/DFA).
  • Knowledge and understanding of full project life cycle
  • Knowledge and awareness of future developments and trends in engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of fundamental project management practices (e.g. Planning estimating, risk management et al).
  • Full driving licence
  • Willing to travel to customer sites for bids and support. May be overseas and/or require overnight stay
