Meggitt Avionics located in Fareham between Southampton and Portsmouth on the UK's south coast, designs and manufactures flight deck avionics, data acquisition systems, instrumentation and life support equipment.

Meggitt Avionics' aviation history spans a century and for the last 15 years we have pioneered solid state technology. Meggitt Avionics designs and manufactures aircraft sensors, displays and systems across three product groups: flight deck avionics, data acquisition systems and life support.

Meggitt Avionics is part of Meggitt Sensing Systems who are a leading supplier of high-performance sensing, monitoring, power and motion systems. Meggitt Sensing Systems specialises in designing products to operate under harsh and demanding conditions. Our systems are used in a diverse range of markets and applications, from aircraft and space launchers to gas turbines and heart monitors. This requires Meggitt's smart engineering for extreme environments.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer, provides significant expertise on complex mechanical engineering issues and acts as a professional resource for the team. Designs and develops a variety of mechanical components and systems for products.

They will also Develop innovative engineering solutions to meet the requirements across the whole development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements , legislation, human factors and business needs

• Provides mechanical design expertise to support development of new mechanical items or improving existing ones
• Develop Innovative engineering solutions
• Generate perform, approve and validate results of verification plans and test plans
• Provide technical leadership in areas of expertise
• Performs value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs
• Provides technical support for new projects and evaluates the requirements and implications
• Maintains project files and appropriate records of work
• Acts as a lead, providing knowledge and expertise for colleagues
• Reduces costs and improves mechanical design and development processes, using best practices and professional knowledge
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Key skills and competencies required:
  • Experienced Mechanical Engineer working within Design
  • A high level of competence in Mechanical principals
  • Experience of designing Electronic packaging / Electronic Mechanical boxes
  • LEAN, Continuous improvement or process improvement experience
  • Experience of designing other varieties of Mechanical equipment such as pressure systems, gears or other
  • Leadership skills and experience of driving projects forward
  • Proficient with 3D modelling (Inventor or CATIA is preferred, CAD and Solidworks will be considered)
  • Experience of analysis experience with ANSYS, thermal and model, stress or FEA packages)
  • Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge
  • Able to solve complex problems; makes decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Verification experienced is preferred
