Summary of Role:
The Weapons Team supports the design, development, production and integration activities associated with the PavewayTM IV Weapon System.
The Engineering Team also undertakes numerous development studies and investigation activities involving weapon performance and platform interfacing.
An exciting opportunity had arisen for an engineer to join the Weapons Team as a Systems Engineer, specifically supporting the internal research and development programmes currently in place and the development of future areas of study. This involves working with Suppliers and interpreting their technical solutions.
This position requires knowledge and experience of weapons systems covering guidance plus warhead and fuze operations.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced systems engineer in the Defence sector. The role will be based at Raytheon's Harlow facility and the successful applicant will report directly to the Systems Assessment Lead.
Main Duties:
The successful applicant will participate in specific areas of study that are focussed on the development of novel technologies from low TRL through the product lifecycle. This would include qualification, production and capability enhancements. This will involve broad awareness of current weapon system technology and the ability to develop novel solutions that support the Weapons Product Roadmap.
The applicant should be capable of leading projects that form part of the overall development activities. This will include:
. Taking a lead role to undertake system modelling and trial activities
. Working within the system assessment team to produce key documents including technical requirement specifications and statements of work
. Taking a lead role in the definition, execution and presentation of trade studies and other discrete tasks.
There will be opportunities to form strategic alliances with other Defence Contractors in order to execute the role. As such, the successful candidate shall be expected to provide a technical interface with potential team-mates / suppliers.
Monthly reports will be generated for internal reporting which will include EVM. Reports will be presented to others.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
. Degree in an engineering (or related) subject and possess a good grounding in maths / physics
. The successful candidate shall be experienced with MATLAB, Simulink and have general programming skills.
. A proven problem solver with strong technical and analytical ability
. Able to converse with the Suppliers / Customers on a technical and programme level
. Complete and present monthly technical and programme reports.
. Excellent communicator, both written and verbally
. Experience of analysing and reporting on technical data
. Willing and able to travel throughout UK
. Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills
. UK national without dual nationality
Desirable:
. Weapon Systems domain knowledge and/or experience
. Familiarity with principles of operation of guidance systems, datalinks, navigation, aerodynamics and control systems
. Knowledge of weapon effects and explosives
. Experience in generic Systems Architecture, Sys ML and DOORS
. Experience at presenting technical data to Stakeholders.
. Knowledge of the certification process as part of the overall system lifecycle.
. Experience of planning, estimating and defining engineering tasks
