We are now actively recruiting for Condition Monitoring Engineers (multiple needed).

To provide technical and engineering support to ensure compliant and cost effective repair and maintenance of Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) is delivered to the customer. Ensuring that equipment is serviced and inspected correctly in-line with OEM recommendations (including statutory inspections) and identified residual defects are reviewed and actioned appropriately to ensure operational and safety performance is maintained whilst promoting optimum whole life cost of the asset

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Assist with the promotion of safe working practices, the development / maintenance of a culture in which health and safety is everyone's first priority, and work to eliminate accidents in accordance with the Babcock "Home Safe Every Day" philosophy.
  • Ensure that individual endeavours in the field of health and safety are consistent with, and compliment, those being undertaken by the customer.
  • Carry out regular toolbox talks and safety briefings to reinforce the health and safety message, and work towards an ever increasing awareness of risks involved within the business.
  • Provide technical support to the business and customer in terms of asset on-boarding, asset specification changes and any asset disposal or return condition processes.
  • Ensure that a rolling plan for scheduled maintenance events for all assets across the region is in place and maintained, these include but are not limited to Scheduled Service Events and Inspections, LOLER and PUWER examinations and Brake Testing - the specification of the scheduled service event is to be in-line with OEM recommendation, customer requirement and statutory regulations as appropriate.
  • Ensure service schedules and statutory inspections for region are updated and appropriate services are actioned, liaising with suppliers and sites and coordinating through the designated Service Controller to ensure that the service is carried out within the required time frame and to the correct specification - any occurrences of non-adherence to the correct service schedule or statutory inspection is to be accurately detailed and escalated for resolution.
  • To ensure all scheduled events are opened, maintained and closed on the system in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Review Service Inspection and Defect reports within region to ascertain levels of remedial works required, ensuring that the works are tasked to the appropriate supplier through the Service Controller and informing the supplier of the action. Ensuring that the FMS is updated with the correct course of action and updated with any documentation.
  • Review LOLER & PUWER reports to ensure compliance and action any defects through the Service Controller. Ensure that the FMS is updated with the corrective action and any documentation.
  • Review Brake Test reports to ensure compliance and action any defects through the Service Controller. Ensure that the FMS is updated with the corrective action and any documentation.
  • Manage and maintain communication with customer sites in relation to all service events and inspections events including recommended course of action in the event of any failed inspection events.
  • To ensure all service records for each asset are recorded and filed in line with company requirements - when requested carry out audit of another region within the business.
  • Review ongoing repair and maintenance jobs within the region to ensure that they are technically appropriate and offer optimum value for money utilising the approval process ensuring compliance at the appropriate level and recommending actions as appropriate.
  • Ensure that Warranty and Recharge jobs are correctly identified, processes are adhered to and component core returns are actioned as required to ensure maximum recovery for the business.
  • Review Fluid Sample Reports to ascertain condition of asset components and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken - updating the FMS to reflect the course of action and updated with any documentation.
  • Review Telemetry / Diagnostic based data from downloads (internal and OEM) to ensure timely interventions are made and provide recommendations on developing faults and asset operation.
  • Where required, ensure correct and cost effective parts are promptly sourced and supplied in relation to repair and maintenance events including scheduled service events.
  • Provide adhoc technical support to the business and customer sites as required, reviewing jobs in progress to ensure accurate fault diagnosis and recording in FMS with the most appropriate and cost effective course of action is taken.
  • Provide condition based asset reports to Regional Operations Manager and Asset Manager to support major component repair, fully planned rebuild and asset replacement and disposal program.
  • Ensure that Mobile and Site Based Engineers time sheets and job cards and service / defect reports are received, checked and entered in the FMS.
  • Review invoices to ensure supplier end costs for repair and maintenance events match quotations and where discrepancies are present manage resolution with supplier to satisfactory outcome.
  • To carry out diligently, all specified administrative tasks required.
  • To maintain a professional attitude, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers - the principles of Being Babcock will be applied to demonstrate this.
  • To carry out any duties deemed reasonable over and above standard duties including deputising and assisting in other roles within the business and supporting all regions & areas as required.

Measures:

  • Quality, HS&E compliance and external and internal audit findings
  • Full compliance with stated processes and work instructions
  • Customer Contractual and Business KPI's measures
  • Asset availability to be in-line with commercial terms of customer contract to incur no penalties per reporting period
  • Effective utilisation of labour and materials for Mobile and Site Based Engineers
  • Asset profit and loss including identified / implemented cost reduction opportunities
  • Integrity and accuracy of data recorded in the system - in-line with customer contractual requirements, system requirements and company IAMM guidelines
  • Customer and Supplier satisfaction
  • Approvals completed accurately and within guidelines for self and team

Experience:

  • Significant experience with heavy plant and equipment engineering in the quarrying and aggregates, or associated, industry. Ideally, as a time served plant engineer in both the workshop and field.
  • Experience of overseeing repair and maintenance activities in the workshop and in the field.
  • Experience and an understanding of condition monitoring principles to promote operational and safety performance and optimum whole life cost of the asset.
  • Experience of working within quality accreditation standards (ISO).
  • Experience of a working within a culturally strong SHEQ environment.

Skills/Knowledge/Competencies:

  • Knowledge of heavy mobile plant and auxiliary equipment rules and legislation.
  • Good technical knowledge of heavy mobile plant and auxiliary equipment.
  • Good knowledge of equipment operating costs and the important part that effective condition monitoring plays in optimising whole life costs of an asset.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective customer and supplier relationships.
  • Detailed knowledge of health and safety legislation in a mobile equipment environment and its application.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to act as a credible representative of the company for external parties.
  • Ability to develop innovative engineering solutions to problems and maximise opportunities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve desired results.
  • Results driven and strives to exceed expectations.
  • Works in the interest of the entire business, not just own area of the business.
  • Takes a positive and pro-active approach to problem solving and shares knowledge within the business to promote best practice and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Recognised construction plant and equipment qualification
  • Quarry Safety Passport or an equivalent health and safety qualification is desirable
