To manage a team of marine systems engineers to undertake engineering investigations of, and provide technical advice and recommendations for, engineering projects as an integral part of the MSSP Systems Technical Authority for the Queen Elizabeth and Type 45 Classes. To direct and allocate the resources as necessary for the safe and successful planning and execution of technical support activities across the range of systems and equipment within the scope of Marine Systems Support Partner.

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Discharge engineering management oversight of the marine systems engineers that are not dedicated to specific MSSP lots.
  • Manage the MSSP design change function including line management of the Design Manager.
  • Lead, manage and prioritise the in-house and sub-contracted staff to ensure delivery of technical support services to time, cost and quality.
  • Be the professional marine systems engineering hub lead and manage the team SQEP through coaching, mentoring and training, to ensure the hub is a sustainable capability to deliver the prioritised requirements of the MSSP Chief Engineers.
  • Exercise a duty of care for health and safety to all.
  • Ensure compliance with company processes and internal and external regulator and customer technical requirements.
  • Conduct technical investigations as guided by MSSP engineering governance.
  • Sustain the MSSP technical support function at Bristol, identifying opportunities and champion improvements for the MSSP engineering support service.
  • Comply with Company safety rules and regulations or local procedures and any Company initiatives to improve safety.


  • The MSSP Systems Technical Authority (Chief Engineering Teams) in delivery of engineering outputs.
  • The MSSP Technical Service for line management and adherence to engineering processes
  • The Type 45 and QEC Class Warship Technical Authorities as part of enterprise engineering processes.
  • Across the Team Assure organisation, OEMs and other stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree qualified and a Chartered Engineer or having demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Experience of engineering design or support for military systems or equipment (ideally Naval).
  • Experience in managing an engineering team and a proven ability to work in a collaborative manner across a multi-disciplinary team and stakeholders.
  • (Desirable) Project Management qualifications.

Security Information

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
