Senior Marine Systems Engineer (Technical Services)

Overview

Senior marine systems engineers will undertake complex engineering investigations of technical projects as an integral part of the MSSP Systems Technical Authority for the Queen Elizabeth and Type 45 Classes. As senior engineers, they will interpret customer requirements and act as the focal point in addressing issues and risks associated with marine systems design intent, proposing and providing technical advice and recommendations.

Accountabilities

To the MSSP Technical Support Manager (Bristol).

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Carry out complicated technical investigations and analyses, including evaluation and selection of technical options, preparing reports with recommended courses of action as required by the MSSP Chief Engineers.
  • Evaluate complex engineering technical issues and, through the application of systems engineering principles, make technical recommendations to the MSSP Chief Engineers through the provision of authoritative evidence that demonstrates that the system design intent has been achieved.
  • Conduct advanced level impact assessments of proposed changes to maintenance, technical documentation and broader Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) functions of in-scope Marine Systems.
  • Support design and safety reviews in order to identify technical and safety risks.
  • Provide technical inputs into ad-hoc Technical Approval Forms (TAFs) covering services where MSSP Suitably Qualified Experienced Personnel (SQEP) capabilities have been totally exhausted.
  • To liaise with all Technical Services functions to ensure that cross-system integration issues and safety aspects of technical tasks are addressed.
  • Act as a mentor for junior engineering staff and engage with line management for personal development of the engineering cadre.
  • Provide management information as required.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to the MSSP service and improvements to the marine systems design baseline.
  • Comply with the Company safety rules and regulations or local procedures and any Company initiatives to improve safety.

Interfaces

  • The MSSP Systems Technical Authority (Chief Engineering Teams) in delivery of engineering outputs.
  • The MSSP Technical Service for line management and adherence to engineering processes
  • Across the Team Assure organisation, OEMs and other stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of an HND in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of the engineering design or support of complex engineering systems or equipment, ideally Naval.
  • Ideally a Chartered Engineer or working towards that status. Support will be available to assist achieving the requirements for Chartership.
  • A proven ability to work in a collaborative manner across a multi-disciplinary team and stakeholders.

Bristol is a vibrant city in south west England with a wide range of attractions, landmarks, events and shopping. It has excellent transport links and is only 1.5 hours from London by train. We envisage that the role shall be based at our fantastic new office in Frenchay.

Security Information

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
