Job Title: Commercial Manager
Location: Lakeside (but must be able to travel and work away from the office as necessary)
Salary: Competitive

Purpose of role:
To lead commercial aspects within the Skills & Learning lines of business (Energy and Engineering, Automotive and Emergency Services, Workplace Skills and Guidance, Babcock Learning Solutions) focusing on contracts, regular internal and external contract reviews, major and local bids, contractual negotiations and risk management

Key Technical and Analytical Skills / competencies:
  • Ability to lead negotiations which deliver client and internal expectations
  • Lead on identifying business, corporate risks and contract risks and develop mitigation plans with operational teams
  • Financially focused and aware of the impact of decisions for the client and Babcock
  • Ability to draft, negotiate and implement contracts and change to existing contracts in support of the strategy
  • Commercial lead on customer contract reviews
  • Highly organised, able to work to deadlines with excellent project management skills
  • Understand the market and developing best practice commercial solutions
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Driven to improve working practices
  • Able to prepare and present difficult and complex financial/operational information in a simple and meaningful way
  • High level of computer literacy

Major Tasks, Activities and Outputs:
  • Ensure all activities within BU are undertaken with appropriate commercial agreements in place that are compliant with Babcock policies and guidance
  • Contribute to the successful growth of the BU through strong commercial leadership of major and local bids and other contractual negotiations including contract extensions.
  • Lead commercial aspects of local bids and BD activity
  • Understand customer requirements, especially solution requirement in order to ensure that the commercial solution delivers best value, the customer requirement and protects Babcock.
  • Ensure all risk are actively managed and that registers are current
  • Constructively challenge business activity in order to increase profits and improve efficiencies
  • To develop and manage a compliance framework across the BU (in conjunction with the wider BU wide framework) (including Data Protection, IAMM, Risk control)
  • Managing the function in line with the Group's corporate governance policies, processes and procedures including H&S
  • Protect assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference
  • Comply with the Data Protection Act 1998

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree qualified or equivalent industry experience (Business / contract law preferable)
  • Strong demonstrable experience in a relevant commercial or related role, including a proven track record in partnering contracts
  • Willing to travel to other UK sites as required
