Job Purpose:

  • Senior member of the BICC BI Reporting team responsible for facilitating and supporting the development of key BI/MI solutions within Babcock.
  • To create high-quality reporting and analytical solutions using the Babcock Corporate toolsets.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Business Intelligence, Analytics and Decision Support.
  • Provide guidance across the stakeholder community and work with the BI Lead to ensure all solutions are fit for purpose, deliver business value and benefit from corporate programmes.
  • Exceed customer expectations through the delivery of consistent, well documented and supportable BI solutions.
  • Ensure delivery of key Data Quality KPI's to your key stake holders to support pro-active management of the quality of Babcock's data.
  • Maintain and Support Corporate IS Reporting Solutions, including a new SAP ERP implementation along with solutions based on non SAP based platforms.
    Major Tasks and Activities:

  • Create business intelligence solutions using the following technologies: SAP BOBJ Stack, SAP BW and Microsoft BI. ( Building Reports using QlikView is a plus ).
  • Control the configuration of BI and ensure the installation is correctly managed by the 3rd party or internal suppliers as applicable.
  • Work with team members, related internal teams and 3rd party providers to ensure that BI solutions adhere to corporate quality, data security and governance standards.
  • Complete all 2nd and 3rd line support issues/problems for BI Solutions to agreed SLAs.
  • Ensure any configurations and development work is completed and tested within agreed timescales and delivered in line with the team's ALM standards.
  • Help business users to exploit new functionality within the system in a controlled and measured way in line with department processes.
  • Ensure requirements are agreed with the stakeholder community and delivered in line with IS and relevant business standards and processes.
  • Ensure the scope of projects and requirements do not dilute or deviate from the agreed strategy.
  • Ensure consistent reporting and systems documentation is updated when projects and smaller changes are implemented.
  • Identify and suggest existing or new emerging standards and best practice for the BI team.
  • Ensure any costs incurred are for an agreed project or an existing budgeted SLA.
  • Ensure all technical decisions taken are commercially aware and support business and IT strategies.
  • Manage your time to deliver activities to agreed timescales for new business, new contracts and mobilisations.
  • Support the review and management of the agreed BI Solutions catalogue to ensure best value for the business and identify potential areas of reports and functionality to exploit.
  • Engage with the Service Delivery Function to ensure quality solutions are transitioned to the live environment. The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the post.

    Person Specification

    Qualification and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Information Systems Field or preferably 5 to 10 years of building & managing BI/MI requirements to deliver reports and functionality to enhance operational performance using SAP Business Objects stack
  • Certification in SAP Business Objects reporting platform
  • Extensive experience in building semantic layer to support BI/MI reports.
  • Well experienced in handling Star & Snowflake schema data models
  • Proven experience in leading technical teams and senior management to drive and deliver data quality initiatives.
  • Knowledge in data integration is a plus
  • Evidence of working in a challenging and complex organisation and demonstrable experience of contributing to business and technical change.
  • Experience delivering solutions to an agreed standard using industry standard methodologies, including Agile based delivery.
  • Proven experience working in a small team delivering technical solutions to business requirements.
  • Experience of working with internal and external suppliers to ensure specified SLAs are met.
  • Ability to deal with and manage conflict whilst building successful business relationships across a range of stakeholder groups.
  • Experience, of building data cubes or queries that can be reused across multiple reports or used by the business to self generate reports.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, profiling and data cleansing techniques.
  • Experience with analysing reporting performance issues and recommending tuning improvements.

  • Current Security Clearance

    Security Criteria to be achieved:

  • Must have or be able to gain MOD SC security clearance.
  • Other security clearances as contracts demand; e.g. Met Police, CRB Check.

Dependant on the administrative privileges required for this role the job incumbent may have access to controlled technology and or information, such as, but not limited to, ITAR.
