Location: South West England

Duration: 6 Months [initially]

EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY: Sopra Steria is currently recruiting for a Head of Design to join a new team, based on site at a key Government client in the South West of England.

The team will be involved in providing a solution to deliver secure access to information services for users across various locations in the UK and overseas, providing a configurable network that has a single sign-on.

This contract is for an initial six months, with the option to extend for at least another six beyond that.

On client’s instructions, due to the urgency, nature and length of the assignment, the successful candidate must have current security clearance to a high level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Be able to leverage prior proven experience, leadership, qualifications and professionalism to deliver an effective and efficient IS/IT Engineering Design Team and ensure the outputs of the team as identified.
  • Be able to provide sound strategic advice and guidance to senior programme managers on design matters.
  • Tactical management of the design team including input, support, and knowledge transfer as required across the whole of the project team, particularly in the areas of design, agile delivery, programme management and service implementation and transition.
  • The individual must be a senior practitioner in Agile Software and IT Delivery and the managing of an Agile delivery team
  • Maintain an in-house engineering team to deliver and transition users to the future deployed solution.
  • Provide specification of engineering tasks and delivery of design documentation, such as Service Design Packages.
  • Support the development of deployed – AS-IS; TO-BE and transition state architecture
  • Enforce technical governance
  • Resolve technical implementation issue and incidents
  • Contribute to the project technical coherence to develop the portfolio level transition states
  • Provide assurance of changes to the live estate to ensure continuity of service
  • Ensure the structure and cohesion of the design team in order to deliver the design team outputs
  • Delivery weekly and monthly reports through the team to Programme Management staff as required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience as a Head of Design or Engineering Technical Programme Manager.
  • Experience in Design and Development.
  • Formal Agile Practitioner Certification (e.g. PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner, PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)).
  • Proven delivery of Agile projects as Lead.
  • Proven experience in running particular agile methodologies and frameworks such as Prototyping, RAD, UP, XP, TSP, PSP, DSDM, MSF, Scrum, Kanban, Dual Vee Model, TDD, ATDD, BDD, FDD, DDD, MDD, IID, Lean, etc.
  • Proven delivery of virtualisation projects as Lead.
  • Solid experienced within a P3M environment.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner qualified.
  • MSP Practitioner qualified.
  • ITIL Certification (ITIL Foundation Certification as a minimum).
  • Degree in Computing/IT, Engineering or similar discipline, preferably a Masters Degree in Design/Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer or Chartered IT Professional with a UK Chartered body (e.g. IET, BCS, etc.), preferably at Fellowship level, but with a chartered history of at least 15+ years.

 

DESIRABLE:

  • Information Assurance qualified to CISSP and ISO27001.
  • Experience with Atlasian toolset (JIRA, Cinfluence and Bitbucket).
