Instrumentation Test Engineer

Primary Purpose of Job

To provide the instrumentation systems required by all areas of the company for ground and flight test to enable data be gathered in order to provide certification and design substantiation evidence.

Main Duties

Flight & Ground Test Instrumentation Requirements

  • Provide support to other functions to develop the instrumentation requirements including ROM costs, equipment capabilities and estimates.

Flight & Ground Test Instrumentation System Design 

  • Provide guidance to the generation of the instrumentation design for both the structural and electrical aspects.  Determine the instrumentation equipment and how it will be used.
  • Provide input and checking of test schedules used to verify the instrumentation operation and required calibrations prior to use.
  • Produce supporting documentation for the instrumentation design and input to other documents relating to the instrumentation design as required.

Set-up and testing of Data Acquisition Systems (DAS)

  • Provide support of DAS set up and test.
  • Verify the DAS has been setup and tested correctly.

Calibration of Instrumentation Systems 

  • Provide support to instrumentation calibrations.
  • Verify instrumentation calibrations have been performed correctly.

Verification Of The Instrumentation System On The Test Article

  • Provide support of instrumentation verification on the test article.
  • Ensure that verification of the instrumentation system on the test article has been performed correctly in accordance with the relevant documentation.

Perform Fault Diagnostics

  • Provide support of fault diagnostics with the instrumentation system.
  • Ensure that faults have been rectified in the correct way and do not impact the effectiveness of the instrumentation system.

Setup and Verification of Data Replay System

  • Provide support of replay setup and verification activates.
  • Ensure all aspects of the replay system have been verified correctly and that the process for data distribution is in place.

Replay of Ground and Flight Test Data 

  • Provide support to data replay and analysis of data.
  • Ensure that data is being replayed and distributed in the agreed timescales

Essential Experience Required for the Job

  • Ability to lead a small team and tutor junior members
  • Experience with the definition, setup and operation of a multi chassis DAS
  • Practical hands on experience of fault diagnostics
  • In depth knowledge of different sensor types
  • In depth knowledge of databus formats (A429 / AFDX / Ethernet (IENA))

Desirable Experience Required for the Job

  • Experience with the KAM-500 DAS and associated software (KSM & DAS Studio)
  • Experience with GS-Works (IADS) software suite
  • Experience with nCode Glyphworks
  • Experience with AutoCAD
