Solve problems with your innovative solutions – and take us to the next level.

From producing nautical charts and publications, to providing accurate data for defence requirements, the work of the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is varied, challenging and interesting. As a government organisation, we take responsibility for producing hydrographic and geospatial data and information, making it available in a variety of forms to those in the marine industries plus other sectors. We therefore rely on staying on top of technical developments and requirements, working quickly and meticulously to fulfil the needs of our varied customers. As such, there has never been a better time to join our ranks, bringing your software engineering expertise to the team, and helping us to meet this demand.

With your work impacting on a huge cross section of industries such as environmental protection, defence and scientific research, your extensive knowledge of the latest technologies will ensure that we continue to offer a high-quality service. You will therefore use the latest technologies to focus on Application Lifecycle Management, designing and building complex software and leading the improvement of work processes. With a keen eye on the continuous delivery pipeline, you will manage the Team Foundation Server 2015 and Visual Studio team services, and work collaboratively with our feature development teams to implement continuous integration. Using your extensive analytical skills to identify problem areas and find solutions, your senior developer skills will inspire ongoing improvement across our development community.

To excel in this dynamic role, you will be an experienced software engineer with knowledge of delivering a line of business applications and a comprehensive grasp of the software development lifecycle. With this knowledge ideally gained in an Agile environment, you will be competent in developing applications using the Microsoft.NET technology stack. While you don’t necessarily need to have experience of Application Lifecycle Management, you will have experience of managing Windows servers. Building good relationships with a variety of stakeholders, you will have exceptional communication skills and an enthusiasm for continuing your professional development.

This role has the scope to push the boundaries of your career, as you will need to remain abreast of current trends in the field in order to ensure we stay ahead of demand. We’re keen to achieve more than ever, so join us, and make a difference.
