Stretch your limits with this career-defining role.

The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) offers a work environment that is quite exceptional. Incorporating a commercial angle within a civil service organisation, our staff benefit from an exciting work dynamic that encourages innovation. As such, we are proud to produce market-leading hydrographic and geospatial data, information and products that keep those in the marine industries safe, and shapes the capabilities of so many other sectors too. And now you can join us, bringing your knowledge of software development to this stimulating team.

With your work impacting on a huge variety of factors such as marine defence, environmental protection and commercial shipping, you will lead the technical aspects of software development and service management in a Scrum team, ensuring our software is meeting world-class standards. Inspiring an atmosphere of continual improvement amongst your colleagues, you will work with stakeholders such as Architects and Product Owners to support software development activities throughout the business. You will also develop the career potential of junior staff and contribute to our wider engineering community. As a key member of the Software Development group, your sharp eye for detail will ensure we continue to maintain and raise standards across the business.

With commercial experience of creating a high standard of C# and Java code, you will be an experienced technical leader, particularly in relation to enforcing quality practices. Boasting an advanced understanding of .Net, you will also have experience of some of the following: Automated unit and system testing, ASP .Net MVC, WPF, Xamarin, Team Foundation Server or Cloud platforms, such as Azure and VSTS. Able to work collaboratively to mentor and train junior staff, you will be a natural leader with great communication skills, and you will have an extensive understanding of design principles and patterns.

This is a truly fantastic role in which you can make your mark on the software capabilities of UKHO both now and in the future, so if you’re ready to catapult your career to new heights, we’d love to hear from you.
