I am currently representing one of the largest and most innovative companies in the world when it comes to communication and network infrastructures from Satellites; an industry leader aiming to keep people connected at all times anywhere - anytime.

My client is looking to hire a Senior Systems Architect who specialises in Communications & Transport Networks to work on a variety of high value projects.

They operate in over 80 countries, have over 40 offices worldwide, with presence in over 60 locations

Currently in the process of launching a state of the art brand new satellite (costing over £2Billion) that will shake and shape the current fleet of satellites in operation, pushing the limits of speed and scope

Role:Senior Systems Architect Communications & Transport Networks
Location:London
Salary:up to £80k + 15% Bonus

Primary role purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to power the system architecture process by anticipating and responding to market demand for new developments, and to establish well-defined development programs to meet those demands. This position will have a primary focus on Carrier Ethernet, IP, and IoT/message-based transport networks, working in conjunction with the Space Segment, Network, UT, and Platform development teams in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) division.
As well as collaborating with the other development teams in CTO, the role requires active participation with the Business Units, Product Managers and internal and external Subject Matter Experts.

The successful candidate will above all be able to demonstrate a thorough grasp of systems thinking and the ability to understand, interpret and adopt new technical information extremely rapidly. They must have a demonstrable interest in new technologies and product innovation, and a practical understanding of the technology development lifecycle and be able to participate at the appropriate point in a matrix development process.

Key Responsibilities:
Assume the systems architect role to lead the development of both carrier Ethernet & IP networks, and high volume messages queues built to serve proprietary wireless access technologies.
Work with Product Managers and both internal and external Subject Matter Experts, including Space, Network, UT and Platform Development teams to develop market requirements into existing or new network architectures and designs.
Produce clear, concise, and balanced documentation to justify or oppose particular product or network development proposals; serve as a fair and unbiased broker in a project team who must consider market requirement match, strategic fit in the portfolio, strategic fit in the industry, complexity, cost and risk.
Build and maintain relationships with the business unit experts such that system development becomes a collaborative process and ideas presented to a wider audience show increased quality and feasibility.
Take an active role in establishing the baseline scope, timeline and cost of investment cases ensuring open, fair and reasoned analysis building upon inputs from all members of the team, including the Space Segment, Network, UT and Platform Development teams, the Infrastructure Investment team and other SMEs.
Track industry trends for parallels that should be evaluated in order to stimulate additional value creation, including major technology developments that push our own development cycle.
Build and maintain relationships with Universities both for technology-push/R&D activities and to build the Technology Development Programme, including development of structured learning material.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Master's degree or equivalent in relevant science or technology field
A strong background in air interfaces and protocols such as L2 access, IPv4/v6, BGP, messaging systems, satellite or terrestrial radio, and standards (e.g. MEF 55 LSO, 5GPP, ETSI MANO)
Expertise and practical experience in modern Ethernet and IP networking and Software Defined Networks, Service Function Chains (both VM and Container based)
Expertise in a breadth of current and developing protocols and specifications relevant to messaging and IoT applications (e.g. LoRa, LTE, Thread, SigFox, XMPP, AMQP, MQTT, IBM MQ etc.)
Expertise in a breadth of current and developing satellite or terrestrial radio air interface specifications
