  • Responsible for planning and directing processing and maintenance activities in designated buildings
  • Nominated Deputy Area Custodian for designated building with responsibility for controlling contractor's access to and work within the building
  • Nominated deputy Building Officer which involves dealing with, and escalating where appropriate, any issues which may arise in designated building related to people, process, equipment, environment, safety and security
  • Perform Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) duties and necessary training for role

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for managing the allocation of work, nuclear safety explosives safety and radiation protection
  • Ensure delivery of the production elements of the Trident Special Area (TSA) Production Plan
  • Ensure direct and indirect reports are working in accordance with approved procedures and documentation and escalating non-compliance
  • Accountable for establishing, managing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external Customers and other Alliance members
  • Accountable for team objectives, performance management, behaviours, discipline, attendance at work, standards and values
  • Accountable for safety and security activities in line with site policy
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player
  • Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with approved procedures and documentation


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure teams and visitors to area are following all work instructions procedures, safe systems of work, safety standards
  • Ensure that relevant standards, training, competency, qualifications and records are in place and provide resources to support Forward Technical Proficiency Evaluation (FTPE) audits as required
  • Ensure correct accounting of materials and that audits are conducted
  • Co-ordinate and deliver on the job training
  • Performing building officer/manager duties
  • To raise, control and monitor any necessary defect reports
  • Ensure that the processing of nuclear weapons and associated small ordnance in TSA facilities is performed to standards that meet defined criteria for quality, reliability, operational safety and safety cases
  • Represent the Alliance at meetings and committees
  • Preparing for, contributing to and managing resources for internal and external audits, ensuring relevant evidence, procedures and documentation are available
  • To control contractors entering the building and to ensure that permit to works are issued in accordance with approved methods
  • To draft and review all relevant Risk/COSHH assessments. Co-ordinate and deliver on the job training to ensure that there are sufficient staff to perform the tasks required to complete the short/long term plans
  • To be an agent for continuous change and business improvements, through the implementation of change processes such as Lean Six Sigma and Operational Excellence and provide resources to support improvement initiatives, where required
  • Ensure provision of required reports, management implementation and KPIs
  • Ensure regular communications and engagement with staff

Experience:

  • Experience of facility management relating to operating, handling and storage of radiological/explosive materials
  • Demonstrable experience on tactical planning processes
  • Working knowledge of company safety, quality and security procedures
  • Demonstrable leadership capability including effective performance management, coaching, resource management, managing discipline, managing sickness absence and grievances
  • Working knowledge of the AWE Programme and working in a Nuclear or Weapons environment
  • Knowledge of working on a restricted site or in a secure environment
  • Knowledge of working to strict procedures, conditions and managements systems
  • Work experience in a scientific or technical field is advantageous
  • Previous experience of working in manufacturing or a production environment
  • Proven experience of working in a unionised environment


Skills:

  • Implement change projects and obtain commitment from team members
  • IT Literate particularly in use of MS office
  • Able to manage priorities in a multi task role delivering to challenging timescales
  • Good interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Recognised craft apprenticeship (Electrical or Mechanical) and/or an ONC plus relevant demonstrable experience (Essential)
  • HND or equivalent in Engineering Discipline (Desirable)
  • Professional qualifications e.g. Nuclear Site Safety Justification Course (NSSJC), Nuclear Introductory Course, Local Nuclear Procedures Co-ordination Course (Desirable)
  • Willing and able to obtain the necessary Security Clearance for the post
  • Willing and able to travel within the UK with occasional overnight stays
  • Willing and able to work overtime as required to meet operational deadlines
  • Able and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated to meet business outputs

  • Discretion when exposed to sensitive material

  • Willing and able to attend all relevant mandatory training
  • Full Driving Licence preferred
