ROLE: Production SQL DBA
Start - ASAP
Duration - 6 months
Location - Newcastle

Monitoring and maintaining the health of production SQL Databases throughout the different accounts and environments, performing failure/fault investigation and rectification in a timely manner.
Troubleshooting any service impacting Database failures,
Advise on future projects relating to SQL databases, Perform proactive checks on the Databases in order to avoid service disruption and factor in growth in the environment,
Maintain the server infrastructure on servers hosting the SQL Database, in order to avoid service disruption to critical applications
Rollout changes to the production environment following best practices and Provide Support to the customer end users, ensuring SLA's are met.
Provide a comprehensive support function for technology solutions and implementations, providing a full range of ITIL service delivery skills, e.g. Incident and Problem Management, Change Management, Configuration and Release Management.
Perform Root Cause Analysis where appropriate, propose and implement long-term fixes.
Service improvement - monitor systems and services to improve performance and reduce support overhead. Suggest enhancements that reduce the need for manual intervention using automation.

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
Essential Knowledge and Skills Required:
Strong experience in Database Administration in SQL Server (2005, 2008, 2012 & 2014)
Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimisation, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Replication.
Knowledge of SQL Server tools ( Profiler, BIDS, SSMS, PerfMon)
Ability to support / set up Always On Availability Groups
Experience in the use of Incident Management tooling e.g. ServiceNow, HP Service Manager Etc.
Experience of Enterprise Monitoring tooling e.g. HP Operations Manager.
General understanding of related technologies (e.g. Networking)

Desirable skills and knowledge/certifications
*Formal Vendor Certification e.g. MCDBA
*Formal ITL Certification
*Reasonable understanding of Microsoft Operating systems and Office products
*Experience of working with SQL in a locked day\hardened environment
*Experience of Microsoft SharePoint, Meridio or Business Objects
